Joel's pediatrician also just gave us the go ahead to start finger foods. He said that they normally don't recommend that you start them until 9 months but since he is closer to 9 months developmentally that we can try them now. He said that we can feed him things such as teething biscuits, cottage cheese, plain yogurt, regular apple sauce, mashed potatoes and bananas. He said that he doesn't recommend cheerios or the gerber puffs yet bc they don't melt in the mouth that easily. The Pediatrician also said (and I read in the what the expect the first year) that babies gum the food even though they may or may not have teeth yet.
Cash eats the Baby Mum Mums and loves them. They are like a cracker but dissolve pretty much right time they are in their mouth. My dr also said the same about cleaning his gums at his 4 month bc we were starting solids.
Jeremy's Pediatrician just gave me the green light tues to start him on the gerber graduates the teething cookies and foods etc. Although Jeremy has not teeth he said go ahead. He also agreed with using a food processor etc! My dr is very easy going and go with the flow. The only thing he is not a liker of is juice he said it's actually not to healthy for the kids to have too much so I'm only giving it to Jeremy ocassionally for now when he's older I will probably give him more! My dr also said to clean his gums before bed! Hmmh.
Good questions!

I think I am going to wait, Jame sis doing well by grabbing things with his hands and almost can grab things with just two fingers, but not there quite yet. He also has not teeth yet.
I gave Medina twice baby biscuits because my MIL recommended it (btw she still has no teeth) as she gave it to her and it was no problem. Well the first time a big piece was in her mouth which she was trying to swallow. The second time she was on my lap so I could control everything and she was choking and vomited!!! So I think I will wait maybe until she gets teeth. I'm not sure.
hmmmmm....when anika was little I started her on smaller pieces of cheerios and those baby mum mum crackers at about 8 months. I was a paranoid mother and just couldn't bring myself to give her anything "finger foodish" before that. If he is sitting well on his own I can't see why not. as long as he isn't toppling over while eating (whether that be sitting on the floor or in a high chair)...it should be okay. Those are my thoughts.
