Cash only uses his pacifier when he sleeps. He will take it anytime he can get his hands on it, but we only let him have it in the crib. My plan is to take it away when I take away the bottle. We are slowly weaning off the bottle, so once it is gone I will take the paci as well. Cash loves this little monkey to sleep with, but sometimes I will go in at night and he will have it pressed right up to his face - scares me so bad I take it away from him. Then I feel bad bc he likes it so much. Ahhhh...the trials of motherhood! LOL!
Age two at the latest. Two of my three older children took a pacifier, and it was a lot easier to get rid of than I thought it would be. I think the longer they keep it, the harder it will be.
Just before my dd turned 2, a good friend of ours had a baby. We told Reygan the baby needed her pacifiers now, and she was thrilled to give them to her! Everytime wqe saw that baby with a pacifier in her mouth, Reygan was so proud! LOL
With ds (who I thought was gonna be very difficult), he gave it up around 18 months, gradually just stopped using it for naps, then at night.
My kids LOVE their "blankies", they are more of a comfort item than the pacifiers ever were, so if Lochlyn has something else he uses as a "lovey", he may be able to rely on that as he gives up his pacifier.
Joel only used a pacifier when he was sleeping so what we did is at 9 months we just took the pacifier away and tried to get him attached to a soothy. We picked a toy/blanket and would make sure that we held it close to us when feeding him and then when he went for naps or bedtime we held it while we read him a story and then put it in bed with him. He didn't become attached to it but his naps were awful for a while (crying when put down for an excess of 20 minutes and then would fall asleep). This lasted about 2 weeks but bedtime was fine so he is officially weaned of the paci now.
JT never took to his pacifier however we have been trying to get him to use one because he started sucking on his bottom lip on only the right side and is causing it to swell and bruise. So the pedi told us to get him sucking one, he just doesn't want to. I'm sure Lochy will grow out of it when he is ready. It is a good sign he isn't using it to suck but chew now.
