Nothing seemed to work for us this weekend. The Domeboro did OK but wasn't the miracle I was hoping for. I got desperate and started googling everything I could and found several moms swearing by corn starch. There were some things saying don't use it in case it is a yeast infection and not diaper rash but I knew it was diaper rash because if the diarrhea. DH and I stopped using all wipes and decided that at every diaper change we would run him under the sink sprayer. Boy did he like that better. And, we'd let it dry for a couple minutes and powder with corn starch...no paste, nothing else. Well, Jack had diarrhea through the night at midnight, 1 and 2 a.m. We groggily rinsed him every time and powdered with starch. he didn't scream in pain so we knew this was obviously working better. I will tell you that one night of corn starch and Jack's little tush is WORLDS BETTER this morning. It dried out and this morning I put Butt Paste on and it actually stuck on instead of getting all damp and slimy like it was, and it didn't sting him anymore. So, I'm going to say I'm now a firm believer in corn starch!! I did Butt Paste this morning because he was going to daycare and I didn't plan on taking a container of corn starch over there. Jack is still having poopy problems this morning but he's not in pain anymore, which is great. If the diarrhea persists through tonight and tomorrow we'll take him to the doc.
Bless his heart!! I hope he feels better very soon! My dr. also recommends the Butt Paste out of all of the ointments. The Zinc Oxide really sticks to the skin he says and that is what makes it the best choice bc it doesn't end up coming off on the diaper or sort of rinsing away in a wet diaper.
Medina only had a bad diaper rash once but that was while she was in hospital after her operation as she was on antibiotics. I can't elp that much but I would recommend airing the area as much as you can, fresh air is really helpful.
Oh poor little Jack, I think that yes changing the formula it will make the diarrhea better, James got a diaper rash when we went to California we usually do cloth diapers but at this time we decided to do disposable and OMG did he break out badly, the poor little guy his skin had some bleeding and it was pretty bad too. i went to the natural health store and bought the Burt's Bee Diaper care, and alternated this with desitin, he got better within one night.
Do what the doc said and try to keep his little tush off any diaper for now, is hard but I think it will be the best for him, hope he gets better.
Thanks so much for the advice! I hope he feels better soon!
Oh I am so sorry...poor Jack :( I sure hope it clears up FAST and let us know what ends up working the best!
Jack's diarrhea and painful rash got so bad I had his pediatrician paged this evening. She called and was very sweet about it. She told me while Jack has this tummy bug to change his formula over to Enfamil Gentle Ease (instead of the Premium Lipil I normally give him). She said to give him plenty of Pedialyte, use the Butt Paste out of all the diaper rash creams. She had me also pick up Domeboro at the pharmacy. She said to mix one packet of Domeboro with a cup of warm water, then soak a washcloth in the liquid...and then ring it out and fold it up and place it in a diaper and let him sit in it for 20-30 minutes...then let dry and follow with Butt Paste. The Gentle Ease formula should shop the diarrhea and the Domeboro solution will heal the tush, etc. I came back from the pharmacy just now and Jack is fast asleep. I'll wait and see if he wakes up -- if he does I'll take it from there! Just thought I'd share this info from my doc in case your little one ever has the same problem!!
Thanks for your advice, ladies!
Jeremy luckily hasn't had any bad ones. Just a few that were gone in a day. He is teething but has yet to cut a tooth. I'm convinced that teething causes diaper rashes. I would use a and d and if that doesn't help within a day or two call your dr. They sometimes need a antibiotic but that is usually if it's a bacterial. Poor lil guy. Jeremy has his first lil nose cold he has a runny nose and can hardly breathe out of it. It's just that time of year! I don't know about you but I can't wait for summer!

iliana had a bad diaper rash shortly after birth and I tried everything (for about 2 weeks). Doc suggested to leave off the diaper for awhile during the day so it could air out as air is the best healer. It took a few more days (total of 3 weeks but that's because I waited awhile to ask my doc) to really heal but the airing out during the day and then Penaten at night worked really well...for her anyway....give it a try.
Poor guy....I hope he feels better soon.
