advice on breastfeeding

I finally had my baby after the hardest induction. Now im having the hardest time breastfeeding. He wont latch. My nipples are too flat i guess and he ***** his tongue so wont let anything in. I use a shield but not much gets in so the dr wants me to give formula after, which he is starting to love. Im so sad cuz i wanna breastfeed and im so tired and frustrated. I need advice. I love my lil guy but this is way harder then i ever imagines. And they want me to feed every 2 hrs even at nite...he sleeps all the time and its impossible to wake him up with my breast. I dont know what to do...

kim- Just a question After mt delivery i got really sick for 24 hrs I couldn't keep anything down i was unable to bf then Jeremy developed Jaundice so the dr thought it was a good idea to continue w the formula. My milk came in over nite so my breast pump won"t be here until tomorrow. My pediatrician thinks feeding him both formula n breast milk is the way to go ok so finally my question..lol will my milk supply dry up if I don't pump unyil tomorrow?

Hugs,
AP
Ps how r u feeling?

Stormy - It takes me maybe 15-20 minutes to pump 4 ozs, I have a HUGE supply of milk though!

Mumita - Not all babies eat 2 ounces, Dameon eats 3-4, and my doctor said he's completely healthy, just has a big appetite! Let's hope your little one doesn't eat that much, it's a pain in the butt!

stormy- The baby wont be drinking more than 2 ounces at each feeding so that's good enough, the more you pump the faster that you will establish a good supply.  Its all about demand and supply.  When the  baby asks for more (or you pump more) your breasts will produce more.

I agree with the above, the same problem happened to me, and I'm pumping 4 ounces at a time, and have PLENTY of bottles to store, so I think you'll be just fine if you pump!

I agree with mumita talk to a lactation consultant and if that doesn't work pump. Good luck!

well, oncce a baby gets used to a bottle nipple it is way easier to do that than to suck on a real nipple.  I think that you should try talking to a lactation consultant and she will help you with latching.  However you will have to limit the bottle in order for him to learn to latch on.  Or you can start pumping your milk and feed him your milk instead of formula.
