food question...

Anyone know what to do if your kid doesn't like a certain food?  Colter loves everything so far except green beans and squash.  He loves his peas, but hates those silly green beans.  Do I keep trying to get him to eat them or just settle with the fact that he likes other stuff?  I have tried for 3 days in a row three different times and now he just wont even open his mouth, or cries and spits it out.  Everything else is like a treat to him.  Anyone know what to do??

With the potato, when I gave Medina some of it on its own, she hated it and still does. But when mixed with other foods e.g. carrot or pumpkin then she eats it. I will try giving it on its own later because she's not ready for it.

I've only tried lilly on home made stuff at the moment. She loves fruit, carrot and pumpkin. She's not keen on potato so i will keep trying. I have heard about the 10-15 times too. I tried potato 3 times in a row and i'll give it a rest then try again in a few weeks.

i think if bub is getting a variety of foods it doesnt matter if they are not eating on certain thing. oh yeah mchn told me that their taste buds will chane every few weeks so things they liked before may become disliked and vice versa! just to make our job harder!

We've only tried a few foods so far (sweet potatoes, pears, cereal, and carrots) and Cooper likes them all.  When one of my babies didn't like something, though, I would wait a while (a week or two) and try it again.  Also, offering it later in combinations might work, like the Stage 2 and 3 foods that have mixed vegetables, or chicken and vegetables.  But if he still doesn't like it, I wouldn't push it.  It sounds like he is eating a variety and we all have things we don't like!  =)

Iliana doesn't care for peaches.  Gags everytime I give them to her.  I will try them again in a few days.  She makes the same face with bananas.  She loves carrots, squash, peas, sweet potatoes and blueberries.  Beans not so much.

I wouldn't worry about the foods he isn't liking right now (if he isn't eating at all then I would worry).  It does take some time to get accustomed to some tastes.  He may never enjoy certain foods.  To date, my 3 year old refuses to eat tomatoes.  Cooked is okay (like in spaghetti) but raw....no way.

I have tried the green beans numerous times and today tried them mixed with his favorite- sweet potatoes...he was on to me LOL!  My Dad sent us this baby blender and some books and containers for me to make my own baby food and told me to try making the "real stuff" and see what he does.  Little does my Dad know that machine isn't going to get used unless he is coming to visit :~  My Dad and Stepmom are all about organic eating, but I am currently all about what is easiest!
Oh, got the buttermilk squash tonite and he LOVED it.  Oh, anyone else have trouble with peaches???
Thanks by the way, I do plan to try the green beans yet again...

I also agree with everyone else, just wait a few days. JT ate bananas but made faces while eating them fed itto him the other day and he seemed fine with it.

I agree with everyone, try it later. The same thing happened with James and rice cereal, I started him when he was 5 months old and he was not ready. I stopped and waited another week, we have been doing rice cereal for a whole week and now he is a champion eater. Next week I will try oatmeal, taking it slow.

I would try the same food again in a few days. They seem to forget such things quickly. That's what I've read and has been recommended to me. Or try this method: for example if he eats carrot, mix some of it with carrot or some other type of food that he loves. That's what I do with Medina and it usually works out fine.

Yeah my dr. said it can take 10 -15 tries.  Cash isn't a fan of peas but eats them.  He loves string beans though.  He loves all the other fruits and veggies as well.  However, after a month of loving squash - when I fed them to him last night he kind of gagged and his eyes watered.  I gave him a few more spoonfuls and he did fine but then did it again.  So I took that as time to stop.  So, I guess they can UNlike a food after liking it as well.  LOL!  I'm going to give them to him again in a few days though and see what happens.  I'm gonna try the whole 15 times thing.

Jack does not like sweet peas and is iffy about apricots and bananas. He absolutely loves sweet potatoes (will gulp down the entire container) and pears! With bananas, he acts like they're sour and makes a face (i tried them and they're surprisingly tart! Green peas he spits out and turns his head and apricots he just seems unsure of. Ha Ha. We haven't been pushing the peas but I should probably give them another whirl. I wasn't really sure what I should do either, was planning to ask the pediatrician at his 6 1/2 month checkup on Jan. 13. It's so fun feeding him food with the little spoon. So cute.

I read that it can take 10-15 trys for a child to like something/eat it if they don't like it.  I would keep trying or maybe feed him something else and then come back to the green beans.
