I am 15 weeks and I still have nausea and food aversion!!!! Im hungry all the time but I cant find anything that I can stomach. I eat the same thing over and over and its getting old and I start feeling aversion with the stuff I can eat. Its getting better but I sure hope it goes away soon.
Thanks everyone, those are all really great tips and guidelines to go by, I appreciate your help!!
Ashelen, I hope you feel better really soon and can start eating to make up for what was lost.
I'm in the same position as you! I was so sick for what seemed like forever that now it seems like I'm starving constantly. In reality I still have only gained 1lb at 13 weeks. I even said when I was at the dr. the other day that I'm sure I've gained a few lbs since I've been so hungry. I was 115 before I got pregnant with my daughter and gained 50 lbs! With my boys I only gained 20 each..The big difference was that I didn't go for the fast foods constantly like I did with my first. I do things now like eat greek yogurt with fruit and granola (Special K has a GREAT new granola) and that seems to do the trick for quite a while longer than most things.
I did the 6 small meals thing and it helped. I am still sick alot but when I turned 14 weeks the hungry thing went away and now nothing sounds good and nothing tastes good to me at all. I will get stuff I am looking forward to then can not eat it for the life of me.
One thing that is free as the dr out it is my smoothies I make. I get yogurt and a bag of mixed fruit from Walmart. I put some fruit one yogurt and water or juice in the blender and it is great!! IT takes a while to eat and gives lots of energy also. I eat two or 3 a day and you don't have to worry about gaining weight with them!
Just be careful. I am usually tiny (120lbs and 168cm) and I've had two pregnancies where I ate what I wanted when I was hungry and put on 33kg/73lbs!!
I have also had a pregnancy where I only put on 111kg/24lbs.
This is what I learnt- Never go more than 4 hours with out eating. Generally speaking this means-
Breakfast - Snack - Lunch - Snack - Dinner
Don't eat anything after dinner, you won't burn it.
Snacks should be fresh fruit, veg or some nuts (never eat more nuts than you can hold in one hand per day) or a boiled egg (only one per day of those)
Protein helps you stay full for longer.
Eat a big lunch and a smaller dinner than normal.
For the first two trimesters the baby only needs you to eat what you normally would plus an extra piece of fruit.
In the last trimester you need to eat what you normally would plus a salad sandwich.
If you are hungry during the night, fill your tummy up with a glass of water or milk.
Stay away from fizzy drinks and caffiene. The more pregnant you get the less sleep and excercise you will get.
That is all I can think of right now, but if you want any more advice or have any questions, just ask! :)
You should eat at least a small snack when you're hungry... there's no problem with eating a lot when you're pregnant, just make healthy choices!! If all you're doing all day is eating, make sure it's stuff like whole wheat bread, apples, carrots, etc. Satisfy your cravings too, though! They're generally your body's way of telling you what nutrients you need.
I wish I was eating non-stop...I've been so hungry, but the nausea's really not going away for me (13w1d here) and I'm fighting off a bad infection which isn't helping...I've lost 14lbs this first trimester and I'm so wiped because I can't get enough calories to break even and get some energy!!
Just be healthy and eat all you want, it shouldn't cause too much weight gain of the choices are right :)
