CAT SCAN

Hey ladies,

On May 27th I blacked out while driving on a highway. I was able to pull over before things got real bad. Long story short, the hospital wanted to do a CAT Scan with iodine contrast dye to see if I had a clot in my lungs. I think I was around 34 weeks. Anyway I tried to refuse for 5 hours, but my mom and husband insisted because they didnt want me to "die". Of course it came back negative and I have been living in regret ever since.

My doctor keeps telling me to stop worrying about it "because there is nothing I can do about it now". But refused to answer this question:

Why do all the websites say that you need to wait 48 hours to resume breast feeding after having contrast dye? If that is the case, then what are the effects of the dye (which crosses the placenta) on my baby going to be? I am so worried about this and I can't get an answer.

At best, I was wondering if any of you girls knew someone who this happened to and could tell me a positive outcome. I am worried sick still and no one wants to hear me talk about it anymore :(

I'm never going to let anyone talk me into something that I am uncomfortable with EVER AGAIN!

I'm so glad to hear that you and the baby were ok. Thank you for sharing your story with me, it definitely helps. I couldn't seem to find anyone with a similar story to help ease my mind, but since our stories are pretty much identical, it does help me to feel much better and less worried.

Thanks again!

With my first pregnancy they "made" do a dye test to check for clots because it hurt to breathe and I had gone in to the er - when I refused the test the dr told me I was going to "go home and die" - yep those were his words - doesn't do good things to a very emotional sleep deprived pregnant woman (I was 7 1/2 months).

Anyway did the test- no clots & I ended up having plursia (lung lining was inflamed & had fluid and it was very painful to breathe, but no danger to baby). I was convinced baby was going to come out glowing from the test, but she was just fine- no problems at all. She's a heathy and bright 6 years old now :)

I'm sure your little one will be fine- you are around the time I had mine done & that was with the technology 6yrs ago- it's probably even safer now :)
