Severe Abdominal Pain NOT contractions please help.

I am pregnant due july 5th 2010 and i have been having SEVERE abdominal pain where im doubled over in pain and i cannot get anything accomplished until the pain subsides. this pain can last anywhere from a half hour to 5 hours and  it just comes on out of nowhere i had the gastric bypass almost 2 years ago none of my doctors have been able to figure what is causing these pains, but i dont know how much more i can take, its the worst pain i have ever felt in my life and its happening on a daily basis now. i really need help. the pain occurs across my adomen from my lower to right above my belly button its not sharp its like cramping and knotting i have regular bowel movements so i doubt constipation and it even happens when i havnt eaten. as i said all of my doctors are at a loss i have seen a gi specialist and she cant find anything i have been to the ER about 10 times so far from the pain and everything always checks out fine with the baby and never contractions.

I too am having the same thing!  Mine usually happen between 3-5 a.m. and it is the most excrutiating, terrifying few moments anyone can imagine.  My docs also just tell me it's "normal"; it's Braxton-Hicks or it's ligaments.  I get offended that they are downplaying the pain.  But!  My husband had a thought: we figured out it's in my lower right abdomen where I had my appendix removed and I have also had a D&C.  What if it's scar tissue?  So I hopped online to self diagnose =)
I'm so glad to see someone is in my same boat and that we're not crazy.  Now if we could just figure out how to live with it...
Best of Luck to You!

Maybe they need to go back in later after the baby and clean up scar tissue and make sure it is not attched to anything. I would hope you have more if you want them! Scar tissue once streched it breaks apart some so it may not be as bad the next time around. It should only hurt when the uterus is so streched on it so that could be some consilation that at least you know it will not be the whole time you are preggers. Also there are natural methods like using evening primrose oil once you are not pregnant to do deep massage to break it up. DO NOT use this while pregnant though unless you are at least 38 weeks as this can cause contraxtions. It is also used to start labor by puttin it on the cervix or labia. Oh, and midwives use it on the cervix when woman have scar tissue from leep proceedures and will not diallate along with arnica. Hope this helps, but just don't try it before 38 weeks, the latter of the 38 weeks!

I usually try to wait the pain out for an hour and if it doesnt lessen then i go to the ER just to get everything checked out lik you said 10_07 i agree i always want to be on the safe side and they did ultra sounds of my stomach and my ovaries they checked my uterus and have done blood work lol i have gone to 2 different ERS and none can find anything PHYSICALLY wrong with me, but obviously theres something wrong with me if im in pain you know? i was in the ER once again last night for this because the pain got so severe again and yes they said it may be scar tissue but they are unsure, and it just happens so frequently now that it is just VERY disheartening and it actually makes me consider not having anymore children, and this is coming from a woman who wants atleast 4

It can be scar tissue from prior surgery's! I am having that pain where I had a laperscopic tubal ligation. The baby is just so big and when he pushes on the scar tissue it feels horrible like I am ripping apart. They checked for henia since it is near my belly button but it is not and goes away when he moves. Ask them about that! Scar tissue can spread to other parts inside also. Hope you feel better and it is nothing serious!

Does the pain happen at certain times like in the morning, night, or after activity?  Did they check your gallbladder for any stones?  Did they do any blood work or other testing?  I would go and see another GI specialist and get a second opinion.  It's better to be safe than sorry.  I would also say if you are having the pain now and it's that severe go back to the ER.  I know you have been there so often but you need to do whatever you need to do for your health and the health of your baby.  Maybe even try going to another ER in the area if your insurance allows to get a new set of opinions.  Hope they soon find out whats going on.  Good luck.

Even though you have been through this before, please don't second guess what is going on. Just because you were cleared last time, does not mean you will be this time. When you are in distress, baby can be in distress. It is worth a trip to the hospital to have baby monitored. Sorry you are going through this!
