chromosome abnormalities

So I had my nuchal translucency scan and my babies nt was 7.6 when it should be around 2.5. The doctor told me my baby has a high risk of having down syndrome. Has anyone else been told this? I have done research and most women have been through something similar and their baby has been fine. My baby has nose cavity, the heartbeat was normal and she had her halves. So no other signs pointing to down syndrome and my blood test came back fine. I have to see a fetal cardiologist Monday and then have another detailed scan in 3 weeks. I refused to have the cvs as I do not want to risk a miscarriage. I will still be keeping my baby no matter what. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

I went in on January 6 and had the test done. I did the finger prick test (instead of just doing the blood work) and my baby tested positive for Trisomy 18, which is more rare and severe then down syndrome. I went in on January 12 and had blood work done and got my results back which were normal. There are so many false positives, I wouldn't stress yourself out:)

I'm going for mine Thursday. Nothing will make me terminate my pregnancy. I feel if it's not ment to be it will take care of its self and i'm sure hope that's not the case I've heard stories of doctors saying something and other doctors disagreeing or the baby turning out fine . X

My NT came back as 3.1mm but everything else looked good, I had a blood test done which checks the babies DNA it's 99.5% or 99.9% accurate to check for DS and other abnormalities, it cost us $600 I will have the results back this week. I would ask your doctor about getting this test done as you will then know ! Good luck

Agree with materni 21 test. I had done at 12 weeks takes 10 days for results. Just a blood test and they can tell you the sex of the baby too!

Ask for a materniT21 test.  They will draw your blood and can separate out the baby's DNA.  The results are 99.5% accurate.  The test just needs to be done after 10 weeks, and unlike an amnio carries no risk of miscarriage. It will also test for other chromosomal abnormalities. Good luck mama

On January 5th my bf and I went for the nt as well...ours was 4.2 if I'm not mistaken..they barely gave us any info and told us to make an appt with genetic counseling! We made that appt for Jan 20 and later that day they called me saying they wanted me to come in earlier than that so they moved it to Jan 8th! I left the office in tears, worrying and stressing!! On Jan 9th they called me and said my ratio is 1 in 55 for my baby to have DS! But by this time I was no longer worried because not only did I researched and read lots of blogs of women that went thru the same and most of them had perfectly healthy babies but also because when they did the scan the only soft market they found was the nt being thicker than usual but heartbeat was at 166 and good nasal cavity! Also bc no matter the outcome it will not change our decision in having this baby and loving him/her like any other baby!! Now I can enjoy my pregnancy regardless of what the blood word will say!! Hope everyone has a happy and healthy pregnancy!!

Do the harmony blood test. This is 90% accurate as opposed to the NT. Its relatively new and insurance covers it.

Hi there. I am afraid I don't have good news. I was pregnant last year and in April on 12 weeks scan I found out that NT was over 3. I have agreed to csv test as everyone advised it to me. The test found out that my baby angel had PATAU syndrome and there was no chances for my beautiful daughter. Lost her at around 14 week but had a beautiful funeral and goodbye.

Have u done combine test? What was the risk?

C v s is chorionic villi (or something to that effect) sampling.  It involves what the other poster posted.  I would have declines it too!  I think your oops on missing the bloodwork may have been for the best. Look at all of all of the unnecessary worry it caused others!  I think the 20-22 week ultrasound when they take measurements is important.  Dont miss baby tv!!!!  ;)  I agree.  I saw my little peanut dancing around at eleven weeks.  I dont think I could go through with anything.   I think there is a definitive test but you have to wait a while..... it is an amnio.   Amniocentisis( I may be spelling it incorrectly! ) .  That will tell for sure one way or another so one can prepare if they suspect an abnormality.  If you wanted to know for sure that is the way to go I think!  :)  A happy and healthy pregnancy to all! !!  ;)

Thank you. That's good to hear. The cvs test involves removing and testing a sample of the placenta. This is done by inserting a thin needle into your stomach

Wow that's so horrible! I agree with you there should be a test that tells you 100% yes or no! Bc that is extremely stressful and then for it to be all for nothing!!!

my husbands two friends were also told both babies had a high chance most likely gunna have DS...well one couple paid for extensive test baby boy is fine 6 months old the other couple stressed and wouldn'tget happy about baby or have bay shower etc...and had a beautiful boy with thw biggest eyes with long eye lashes. it makes me miserable to think these people lost that excitement. unless doctors know 100 precent i dont think they should worry couples...i messed up mine so never knew as i missed thw window of the blood work opps
