Birth control methods

Thinking about birth control after I have my baby. Not anything permanent because I want more kids later, but not for a while. What methods do you guys who are considering birth control plan on using? I plan on breastfeeding I having spoke to my doctor about it yet, but I like to know opinions.

Hmmm that might be an interesting route to take...how long after you took it out did it take you to get pregnant?

No the Nuva Ring did not hurt at all, its very easy to put it and take out. I also never got a cycle when I was breastfeeding and I nursed for an entire year. So basically I didn't have a cycle for almost 2 years bc of being pregnant for 9months and nursing for 12months.

I want to wait at least 3 or 4 years before having another one. So thinking of either taking the birth control route or withdrawal from having sex (hard but doable lol).

Yes I breastfed my 2 year old...I didn't go the birth control route either. I don't think I got my period until like maybe 2 months later. I didn't have sex and when I did I used condoms. I wasn't sure about it so I decided not to take it.

Babyiish is right, most of the time you don't get your period during nursing. I know I didn't, and then, when I did the next time I was pregnant, again!! I have always been the person that never got a period. I got on a diet after I gave birth to my daughter. Then one month I got my period and by the next month I didn't, so I took a test (on my daughter's first birthday) and it came out positive. If you are sure you don't want anymore kids then just ask your doctor for birth control. I never thought I could come out pregnant without undergoing fertility treatment. Now that I'm sure I am going to tie my tubes!!

Hey did you breastfeed your first baby?
I breastfed my 2 year old and I ask the dr if I could take birth control... She recommended me birth control pills that are safe while breastfeeding but I never took them cuz I kept waiting for my period.... You know how the dr recommends you to start the birth control during or after your period...well I had no idea that you don't get your period while your nursing....=(
so I just use condoms...>:(For 5 months):<
soo don't wait for your period like I did...lol
This time I'm planing to breastfeed but not to sure about the birth control :/

My Dr. prescribed me the Nuva Ring after I stopped nursing and had my 2nd child, but when I was nursing he didn't prescribe any birth control(but I also nursed for a year). I loved Nuva because I inserted it for 3 weeks and took it out for a week during my cycle, the only reason I stop taking them and got pregnant bc I started taking bp meds.

After I had my son I used  a method called implanod it last for 3 years so I didn't have to worry about going for shots, taking pills or things falling out....what it is a small rod that is implant in your arm its good for breastfeeding and great for a forgetful person....I stop using it last year and got pregnant in september so it's great if you want to wait 3 or 4 years before you have another baby..my son made 4 on the 11 and I'm due in june so I can say it worked in my favor because I finished school.

Thank you :-) very helpful information...I will make sure I do my research and see what options my doctor would have before I choose anything if I decide to do the birth control method

While you are breastfeeding you can take the progesterone only bc pill.  It doesn't have estrogen which is what can affect your milk supply.  You need to take it at the same time every day and it is most effective when you are exclusively breastfeeding.  It doesn't prevent ovulation, the breastfeeding does.  What the pill does is make a hostile environment for sperm on the off chance you do ovulate.  I have taken it with 2 children and it's worked for me, but there are women who still get pregnant on it while breastfeeding.

I will take it for the first 6 months after this baby then I am in the same boat as you, trying to find something that is a good fit for me, and I hate hormonal bc.

I know everyones experience is different, but I did not like the copper iud. Its called the paragaurd. It makes your period heavier, and really bad cramps. My period last 4-5 days with the iud it lasted 7-8 days and I would bleed like crazy changing my pad like every hour. I had other friends who used marena and they all love it. There periods were lighter and eventually stoped all together. I might use that.

Thanks I was looking into IUD still not sure on it. I saw other ppls stories on Pregnant 18-35 and some are having problems trying to get pregnant from hormonal birth control. I've never took birth control so just wondered about it.

Your doctor will tell you the best one to use for breastfeeding, but I think, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, there's some with low hormones that won't cause a decrease in your milk. Other than that, I believe most of them have combined hormone levels that will decrease or stop your milk. I plan on tying my tubes so I'm not sure what's safe to take during breastfeeding.
