membrane sweep / strip

Has anyone had this done?

Yesterday at my 38 week appointment my midwife did the membrane sweep. She had told me the week before she'd do it next time so I had time to look into it. A lot of what I read about other people having it done was that it can take at least a few minutes - 5 minutes. What she did was probably 30 seconds, which I'm okay with cuz it hurt!!  Has anyone had the procedure done and had it take more than a minute or so?

Also, I had some initial bleeding and than last night it stopped. Now this morning I've had..

A lot of mucus discharge that's dark red blood tinged.. Off and on today.

Could this be my mucus plug or bloody show??? Or, just a result from the sweep yet?

Anyone had these results? I was at 2.5 (she said pretty much 3 but better say 2.5??) dialated and 70% effaced before the sweep!

I think, technically, the sweep is a method of inducing but it's not guarenteed and as far as I understand is only done if you're already showing progress and if you and baby will be safe to deliver soon. I've been measuring big all along and they think if I get to 40 weeks baby could be 10 pounds so they're not worried about her size at all.

I've felt pretty normal the last few hours :/ I was hoping to be crampy and than go to contractions and have baby very quickly! They say the sweep can cause labor to start within 48 hours and if it was the mucus plug I lost maybe there's still hope. I'll have to post if I DO go into labor that way you ladies getting it done soon can have hope as well!

Membrane sweep is to get induce?
Is that safe?
I'm going to see the dr 2marrow...I told him I want to get induce at 40 weeks and I really don't know what to expect, so I'm a little nervous here... :/

im having my membranes stripped next week at my 39 week appt for the 1st time. im so excited. fingers crossed it works!

Well posibly if shud b ur mucas plug. if uve had a sweep. im 39+4 today n when i was 38 weeks i got a sweep n she said i was 2cm dilated!  Still waiting for sum kind of show im totally sick so im gunna fne mudwife in 2 days to see if she will fo another sweep for me since my due date is in 3 days. if it is ur mucas plug is cumming aWay then gud luck uight have a baby very soon!
