Ya me too... it's so odd and I don't want to gain an extra 10 lbs just for the test :(
You can not cause GD with what you eat. Either your body makes enough insulin or it doesn't. You can control it with what you eat. Either the doctor was joking or he/she wants you to load your system to see how effectively your body can handle the glucose load. Again this can't CAUSE GD...-pregnant student doctor
I failed first glucose test with 156 and had to do 3 hr test. They told me to eat like I normally do but to not eat anything after midnight. My appt was at 9. I could only drink water. I've NEVER heard them tell anyone to eat sweets like that and this is my fourth pregnancy. I would definitely be recheck ing with them.
You need to do fasting because they wanted to know how your body reacts or tolerates the glucose drink that they make you drink during the exam.
She also said I can't eat after midnight and my appointment is at 8:30 the next morning. I just think if I'm eating 6 candy bars a day I'm going to be too full or feel too crappy to actually eat real food.
It's a bit different here, I failed the one hr but then had a 2 hr which I had to eat a high carb diet for 3 days prior so each day had to eat 3 servings of bread, one serve if spaghetti, 3 pieces of fruit, 3 serves of veg etc and I passed the second one... Candy and ice cream just sounds crazy
I failed the one hour my first pregnancy only by a little and had to do the 3 hour. I passed the 3 hour. Maybe ask him before you do that. You are testing for gd not tryig to cause it! It doesnt make sense because you would think they would want an accurate result of how your body handles glucose and i am pretty sure you wouldnt eat a chocolate bar at every meal on a daily basis. I was told to eat my normal diet the few days before and then fast for 8 or 12 hours (cant remember) before the test.
Ive never done the 3 hour test so I don't know how it goes but that sounds weird to me...lol. I guess maybe if you have gestational diabetes that might help it to be spotted easier. I'm sure your doctor has a method to their madness.
