Hayden has the runs

So for 2-3 days now Hayden has had diarhea - so DR told me to replace her formula feedings with pedialyte. She said it is going to help - but now i am second guessing this - how can she survive on pedialyte alone? DR said sometimes people have to do this for up to a week! I just feel like she is not getting the nutrition she needs.

anyone have input on this? Hayden seems happy and no temp - just runny yellow poop about 8Xs a day....her lil tush is so red! ;-(

Poor thing! I am not to sure about the taking the formula totally out too that would seem a bit odd to me too, BUT maybe the Dr. is right. I am sure they can last a day or two without formula! I would definitely call again just to double check! I hope your little one feels better soon!!

When Blake wasn't eating well a week or two ago I asked my pediatrician and she said she wasn't worried about it. She said that babies can go without food/calories for a while. It really bugged me too but she was very sure of it and I know she is probably right. If Blake doesn't eat (now I think it was because of her teeth) it worries me but I know she has enough baby fat that she will be ok for a little bit.

That is weird though that she has loose bowels! Most of the time at this age it is the opposite!

I have been mixing with some formula. Like 3 parts pedialyte 1 part formula. No runs through last night thank goodness

I am going to call Ped. today again, I just don't feel right about not giving her formula!

That sounds really strange. Where will she be getting nutrients from? I am not a doctor, but I would think that you should at a least give her some formula. I know you haven't started her on solids, but that would really help with the runs. Bananas and rice cereal are really good with that problem.

When MIcah was one he got the roto virus and was really sick with the runs for a month! He was on pedialyte, but the docs told me that for every ounce of pedialyte I gave him he needed an ounce of water....

Good luck.... poor little Hayden
