Movement Sensor Moniters???

Hi Ladies.... Kinda a weird question.... I have a Movement sensor Moniter in Noah's Crib and I have done alot of research on it and really cant find the answers I am looking for and was wondering if you ladies know much about them... I have read the book back and forth and it never tells me a specific answer..... The jist (sp??) of it is that the alarm will sound of baby stops breathing.... I wanted to know if the alarm really means the baby has actually stopped breathing or maybe there breathing gets below a certain breaths per minute or so.... I ask bc the alarm has actaully gone OFF (which scares the ever loving **** out of me!!) several times since birth....and I have actually jumped up and baby seems fine I will place my hand on him to check breathing or pick him up real quick, not sure maybe the sound of the alarm wakes him and reminds him to breath or maybe he is just breathing odd or off beat and it pickes it up and sets off the alarm... The other week it went off and i jumped up and ran to the crib and he was wide awake...eyes open and i set my hand on his chest and he was breathing..... i dont think the alarm is faulty it works pretty good and doesnt just go off all the time.... its gone off about 3-4 times since he was born....

I was just wondering if you ladies know any more about it than i do.... does it mean that he really stops breathing???? If so should I call the dr and let them know he might possibly have a breathing issue?? Or maybe its him wiggling and scooting around and the pad under the mattress doesnt pick up his breathing that well?? I really dont know what it could be but my heart stops every time the alarm goes off...... any suggestions ladies?

Thanks Ladies! It does drive me NUTS and its very scary! It only ever goes off at night.... after the alarm goes off I dont sleep good for a week.... I am up all night checking on him LOL.... sometimes I think it would be better not to have it bc it causes TONS of worry when it goes off but he does always seem to be fine when I jump up and check on him! I will def call teh doc and see what they have to say about it!

We have one that I borrowed from my cousin, his has gone off a few times which scare us. Check how high the sensitivity is set, they told me sometimes if a big truck went by thier house it would set it off and stuff like that or if he moved to much. Having it has been great because we put him in his room at 6 weeks and it makes me feel better having it. one thing to note though is it has only gone off during the day...at night would be really scary

I am with Amy... we skipped on this because I knew that I would drive myself crazy as well :)  I would have to think that they aren't 100% reliable and like Amy said... if they aren't moving or breathing hard enough, I would think the pad wouldn't pick up the sensation.

Maybe just give your doctor a call... I have a feeling he/she would be able to tell you the answers to your questions.  Chances are, your little guy is fine... but, just so you have reassurance maybe call your doctor and ask about the movement sensor and its reliability.

I almost got one of those but then I figured I would go crazy...haha. What I read about them is that they will sound an alarm if your baby has no movement after 20 seconds. But I have read that sometimes babies will have irregular breathing and have pauses as long as 30 seconds...so I don't know. I would think odds are  he is fine and will continue to be fine but that monitor might make you go nuts worrying about it. :)
