Officially decided that breastfeeding is not for me anymore :/

Alright... after 3 months of breastfeeding I am done.  I just 100% decided today.  I have done everything in my power to get my supply up to the amount she is eating, and I can't do it.  It's like my body maxed out at 2oz.  Anyway... we are now going 100% to formula.  Do I feel guilty, yes.  But, I think that is pretty normal.

Question is, Leighton is SUUUPER gassy ("extreme" colic for the first 6-8 weeks and now we are just straight up uncomfortably gassy).  What bottle is best for these babies?  Is there even a bottle for "gassy" babies?  She seems to suck in a lot of air when we bottle feed and I am trying at all costs to not have her be uncomfortable during and after feedings.

we use playtex vented ones. they are angled with a vent in the bottom. So you have a total of 5 pieces to wash but it really doesn't take any longer and is so worth it, we only have 4 so i use some regular bottles to and there is so many air bubbles and he gets really gassy

Thank you guys for your suggestions.  I pumped about 5oz. today and gave that to her.  So, I am just going to pump what I can and give it to her mixed with forumla so that she still gets something from me.  HOpefully that will help with my guilt too!

we use the Nuk bottles...and Blake has never had a colic issue...so I don't know. I think bottles are bottles too...but some of my friends swear differently. Some of my friends use Dr.Browns and some use those Playtex ones with the bags you throw away. I have only used Nuk and I love them. So yeah..don't know if I helped much!! Sorry.

Don't feel guilty. You have done more than most. This way you know without a doubt what your baby is getting!

I use the Avent bottles. They are ok. Jack doesn't seem to have any issues with gas anymore. I am not sure if he grew out of it or it was the bottles (When I started having bf-ing issues I pumped and bottle fed and ever since then he has been less gassy). The nipples for those bottles come in 4 stages. I have bought all 4 and alternate the use (trying to get Jack use to my forceful flow). Anyway, when I feed him formula the medium and high flow nipple for those bottles tend to work the best since the formula is thicker than the breast milk.

oh the borne free bottles have a "vent" you put in them to help with gas - check them out!

you can get a slow drip bottle nipple - i think borne free makes then - level 1. Also - every one says Enfamil’s Gentle Ease powder formula is best.

I am almost behind you - i want to get to 3 months - but now doing formula from 7 pm to midnight and pump to build a supply. so let me know how it goes!

Ovaz- we have the Breastflow bottles by Soothie (you can get them at Target). I chose those because Mark is exclusively breastfed and I thought that he would take  expressed milk better from that bottle. It is designed to be the most like a breast with two nipples (one for compression and one for sucking). He has had no issues with it, and less gas than when we nurse him. Anyway it might be an easier transition if you use it because you have been breastfeeding for three months...

Good luck!

I thought bottles were bottle as well until my cousin who was in town last weekend was saying that her two sons (who were always formula fed babies) had to use the bottles with the bags and that I should try them out.  I just wanted to see what other suggestions there were.  I probably won't be doing Dr. Brown's (not into washing a million and one pieces!  haha)

I think that she ***** in so much gas because her mouth seems to slip when she is sucking the nipple.  Maybe I need to try a different nipple?  I will have to give my pediatrician a call to see what he thinks.

As far as bottles, we've tried a majority of them with Brock's sucking/acid reflux issues.  We started with Avent and the speech therapist told us they're the "cool" bottles.  He couldn't get his mouth around the entire bulb so they weren't for him...glad I have about a dozen of them!!  We tried Dr. Brown's...pain in the butt with 5 parts for washing.  And I'm not sure the flow system actually helps with gassiness.  We now have the plain old Even Flo bottles with Dr. Brown's "Y-cut" nipples because of the rice cereal in his bottles.  They work very well for us.  He's not the gassiest baby, so I'm not sure what the best bottle is for that.  Avent is supposed to help with colic and Dr. Brown's is supposed to help with gas because of the tube flow system thing in the bottle.  My friend really liked the Even Flo with the disposable bags.  I never thought I'd have to buy/try so many bottles to find the right one.  I thought they were just all the same and a bottle is a bottle.  Apparently not!  Good luck!  I told my husband's cousin who is pregnant to consult with nurses and lactation consultants before going out and buying a million bottles.  You can ask your ped. also...I'm sure he/she has some good ideas too.
