Big Baby Girl

So i had my 30 week appt yesterday and had a position and measurment u/s.   She is head down so I was very excited to see that and looks absolutley perfect.  The tech was slightly concerned though b/c she is over 4lbs already and i have 9 weeks left to go.  They are going to do another u/s when i am 36 weeks to see if she is still growing at the same rate and if she is we are going to have to schedule a c-section.  Now here is my question for everyone...  I really don't want to have a section if not absolutley necessary.  I am not a very big woman (5' 10" 140lbs. pre-pregnancy) and i am pretty narrow through my hips.  They are thinking she is going to be over 9lbs if she keeps growing at this rate, so if they tell me i need to have a c-section do i just accept it or do i still try to have her naturally?  I know this is a personal decision, but i could really use some advice.  I love my OB and i know she just really wants childbirth to be a pleasant experience, but there is always the what-ifs...  Aaron keeps telling me not to worry about it until we get to 36weeks, but i really want to have a decision made beforehand.  I know some of you ladies are having big babies too and i would love to hear what your dr.s have told you up to this point!!
I hope all of this makes sense :)  I am trying to get a lot of thoughts out all at once!!

Well first off 5'10" is not small framed! LOL You may be a thin girl, (Lucky girl :) but not petite. So the thought of a section from your OB just because your thin seems weird, even if you don't have big hips, (most tall thin women don't) dosen't mean that during the labor process your body won't do what it is supposed to do! Please do not worry. I think they are just giving you the "worst case sencerio". I think your mind is in the right place with going naturally.

When I had my first I was 4'11" and pre~pg I wore a size 3! (OH the good ol days! LOL)
Anyhoo, I still dialated to ten and my hips did spread, granite I still had to have a section, my boys head was monsterous, but as you can see our frames are way different, and my body still knew what to do. So I think you will be smooth sailing, Maybe they can just induce you at 38 weeks! Baby Girl will have healthy lungs by then and it might save you a pound or so!

PS~ At 30 weeks Addy was only 3.4 I thought that was big! Your doing good mama!

I really appreciate all the thoughts and comments...I am glad to hear that i am not crazy for wanting to still try and go naturally.  I will be sure to try to discuss it more w/ my OB and DH so that i am completly comfortable with the decisions being made.  I would never want to compromise her health just b/c I am being stubborn so I am not going to take this lightly!!  I guess if the dr.s think she has to come by c-ection i just have to remember that all that truly matters is her getting here!!!

kylesmom- i think that if the baby is breech or transverse a c-section is ok, but i agree with you, just b/c the baby may  be bigger i dont see that as a reason to jump to c-section. maybe they are wrong on the dates and she is farther along than they think. They can never really be 100% sure of gestational age. Maybe your body will naturally go into labour early b/c the baby is bigger, having a sheduled c section takes your body out of that. i have a chinese girlfreind who is VERY tiny. like 5'5'' and maybe 100 pounds, she is healthy. She has a very small pelvis, sometimes its hard to believe she has 3 kids, but she does and they all have BIG chinese heads. She gave birth to them all vaginally and all 2 weeks early, her dr thinks b/c her body just knew it was time for them to get out!! lol. They are all 100% healthy as well. Just b/c you may have a small pelvis doesnt mean you cant deliver vaginally, my aunte has "birth giving hips:" and couldnt give birth vaginally, its all about how your body reacts at that time and you wont know that until it happens.
I do agree that having an emergency section would not be fun, I think you have to weigh the pros and cons on that. Does your dr think you could give birth vaginally to a larger baby or is he or she just jumping to the c-section? I would ask the dr some more questions and you know maybe at 36 weeks she will be at "normal" weight, perhaps they got her after a growth spurt.

I'm scared to death of a section and don't want it.  But, if Reece continues to grow and the doctor thinks that is best, then I'm going for it.  I definitely don't want to be in labor and then find out he's stuck and get rushed for an emergency section...scary!  So, I'm going to do whatever the doctor suggests.  But, I think I should be fine.  I'm 5'10 so a 8lb-9lb baby should be fine for me.

i wouldnt worry, my friend had 2 boys both were 10lb babies!, she has a tiny frame and she grave birth to them both naturally, but ifm they think its better for you and safer for the baby then i suppose theres not much you can do,
over 4lb though thats great! what a healthy girl!

I've been told I'm having a big baby too, but my little one isn't head down, so the only reason I would have to have a c-section is if she doesn't turn, I certainly wouldn't have one just because she is big.  My mum's biggest was 12.7 pound and she had him naturally.  I would say if you don't want a section then stick to your guns and just tell them that is not an option you want to consider unless for some reason the size of your baby is compromising hers or your health!!
