Contractions

I have been dealing with BH contractions for quite some time now, but i noticed this morning that they were coming pretty close together so i started timing them at about 10am.  For the past two hours of timing them they are about 7 minutes apart.  I know i should call my OB, but i am going to wait another couple hours just to be sure.  They aren't very intense, but i am just bothered by how patterned they are.  It is too early for her to come out so i hope it's just a false alarm.  I'll update once i know more...

hkenny ~ That's a great idea about the watching a whole season of somthing! I never even thought about that. I've been watching all these design shows on HGTV and driving DH crazy coming up with ideas for him to do! LOL I am still begging for my new couch, I hope to come home from the hospital to a SUPRISE new couch!! I doubt it though :)

I am so sorry that you have to be on bedrest.  Hopefully this will help your little bean to get good and strong before she makes her grand entrance into this world.  I agree with hkenny.  I think you should rent movies or become a member if not already of a internet rental site like blockbuster or netflix.  I would also read books.

kylesmom- so sorry to hear that, and i agree i bet wondering what is going on has made your blood pressure worse. thats good that there is no cervical change. i wonder how accurate this test is? I heard about it on the show the dr's last week.
as far as what to do, if i was to be put on bedrest i would buy or rent season 1 of some show people have always told you to watch and watch it, then there is season 2 and 3........and so on. my aunte did this on bed rest and said it saved her life. read a book people have recommended, i dont know something time consuming!

hope you are feeling ok and that you are resting!!

Well my appt didn't go as well as i had hoped it would.  My contractions started back up this am, but weren't as patterned as they were on Monday.  The test my Dr. did on Monday came back positive so my chance of delivering in the next 2 weeks is high, so i am on bedrest for the rest of the time.  There wasn't a noteable change in my cervix, so that is good news, but the meds they have me on to stop the contractions is causing my blood pressure to go up.  Personally i think part of my blood pressure issue was being a nervous wreck about what i was going to find out.  Now i start to see the Dr. every two days and i will also do a NST when i go in for my appt.  So if anyone has any good ideas of how to pass the time while on bedrest please let me know.  I have only been home for a couple days and i am about to lose my mind, but i am just praying that she stays in there past the two week mark b/c it is just way too early for her to come meet us.

HHMMM.. intresting!
kylesmom~ I know my Dr. wont check your cervix till at least 36 weeks, b/c if you are starting to dialate, it can aggrivate the cervix causing it to dialate more quickly. Not all women are the same though, some women will start to dialate even b/4 contractions actually start. It's called an incompatent cervix, just the pressure of baby will cause it to start dialating, I think it would affect those women more. If your already having contractions that are weakening the cervix it can also irritate it.He is going to check mine Thur. I will be 35.4weeks.

Mommy2b-
I really have no idea when we'll know if they are the real thing, but if there is a chance that i was dealing with the real thing yesterday then they really didn't feel any different.  I am sure the ladies who have done this before will be able to tell you more.  The only difference that i have been noticing latley is that they kind of take my breath away at times and they are more patterned.

Kiki-
I was really thrown for a loop when she told me about the test...It was kind of scary to know that in a matter of one little test i could know if my baby is going to come meet us in the next couple weeks.  Maybe it was just that your Dr. knows Addy's going to coming out here shortly anyway so they didnt want to risk an internal exam.  Now maybe there is something you can help me with.  Is it true that by doing the internal exam they can cause things to start progressing?

Jen-
I am glad you could remember the name of the test b/c all i could remember was the fetal part of it.  My doctor told me that even if it came back positive it wasn't for sure that i would go into labor and if it was negative that there was like no chance of it.  What did your Dr. tell you. Sorry for being nosey, but i was just curious.

I had that test done when I had to go to L&D.  Apparently, they do like a internal exam (you know with the metal thing that looks like a ducks mouth lol) and they swab and send that swab to the lab and then if it comes back positive, it means baby's coming if it's negative, then no you have a while to go. It's called the FETAL FIBRONECTIN test

kyles mom~ I'd like to know more about the test they did, I didn't know they had such a thing?? I wonder why my Dr. didn't do anything like that? Maybe b/c they are going to take her anyways b/c of the pre-eclampsia, but I've been having pretty steady contractions since Thur. But not as consistant as yours, mine still range from 5min to 30 min. It's amazing to me the technology these days.

On a different note, I'm glad they are not affecting your cervix, keep her in there till at least 36 weeks, that's a pretty safe zone! Good luck get your rest, it has helped me tremendously!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about that... a little late, I know... but I am just wondering about the contractions.  I have been having some BH contractions for a while now, but obviously very sparatic... they don't hurt at all, just gets really tight and kinda hard to walk during them.  Sometimes though, I can't tell if it is Asa stretching in there or a BH... it will last for like 30 sec. or more, but he just moves so much, that it is sometimes hard to tell the difference... and how will we know if they are "real" contractions?  will they start to hurt or something?

Well i called this afternoon and went in to get checked.  They hooked me up to the monitors to check contractions and baby's heartbeat.  They were concerned at the rate the contractions were coming so i had to wait around and see my Dr.  She did some test to check and see if i was going to go into labor in the next two weeks.  They had to send it to the hospital to get the results, so they won't know anything on that until tomorrow.  Then she checked my cervix and there wasn't enough going on down there to send me to the hospital (thankfully!!).  So she called me in a perscription for terbutaline to stop the contractions and as long as the contractions stop i go back in on Wednesday to get checked out again.  Until then I am on bedrest just to make sure everything stays where it should!!

It seems a little early, but we are on our babies time table...  I hope it is a false alarm.  I've been dealing with a lot of pressure down below and mestrual type cramps.  I'm trying to chalk it up to Reece moving down south and maybe a bowel movement (sorry TMI).  But, I don't want to think about him wanting to come this early.  Please let us know what your doctor says.  You should definitely call!
