Like msme3 write, women do often start having contractions before their water breaks, or it is broken by a doctor during labor. I did have my water break before contractions with my first. I went to the bathroom and as I was getting up from finishing, there was an extra gush that I just knew was not urine. I put on a sanitary pad and was soaking through about 1/hour or so for a few hours, then it slowed but the drip was continual. If something like that happens to you, make sure to call your doctor. Once I went to the hospital, they were not prepared to let me go home, even when my labor slowed, since my water was broken.

ha ha @ pickle jar!  What about the pickles?

I was also wondering about how water breaks for most people.  Maybe I should get a waterproof mattress cover and avoid other people's upholstered furniture!  :)

Your water doesn't always break like they show women on tv. With my first daughter I would kid around and say I was goin to carry a small pickle jar in my purse when I got close to my due date in case my water broke in public I would drop the jar and blame it on that haha.

Most women's water break at the hospital you would normally feel contraction and once try are about 4 mins apart for an hour it's time to go in to The hospital.

But since you want to know how you would know there would normally be a gush of water I felt like a popping feeling and then a gush of water. Alot of water that you can't mistake it.

This is my third pregnancy and I'm pretty sure like my other two my water will break in the hospital but that doesn't stop me from putting towels on my bed in fear I will ruin Te matress if my water breaks while I'm sleeping haha
