c-section or natural birth

I was just wondering if it is possible to get a c-section with your first without having prior complications? Or is it natural birth until you NEED a c-section?

I'm having so much swelling, I was put off work by my doctor but I don't have enough hours to get my maternity leave... I have to stay here until then ! I'm beying watched closely, once a week to see my water retention and weight gain, blood pressure and etc... I'm so anxious for my boy to be born so I can go back to normal lol

Did you ask your OB about the water retention?  I don't know about the not being able to feel the left half of your body thing.  It sounds like something that should be checked out.  It could be something different requiring intervention.  Keep us posted!

The first pregnancy I had to have a c-section because my baby was breeched.  This one i do have an option because I did have a c-setion with the first.  My dr. will not do a c-section with the first pregnancy unless there is a issue.

I was told that here in Ontario, if an OB has c-section rates outside of the norm, they're investigated as a measure to stop the unnecessary c-section rate.

Is there a reason you want a c-section?  There are other ways to manage childbirth than surgery.  If you want it planned, there's always induction.  Induction with an epidural makes delivery and recovery much easier than the surgery associated with a c-section.  Just curious.

All the ob doctors I have met want their patients to op for a normal delivery and only use c-cection if necessary.

My doctor always opts for natural if at all possible, but that's a big part of the reason I chose him! I think RippedonScotch is right that some docs will entertain the idea - probably more likely if your provider is an OB.

I think that depends on your Dr. and where you are.  My GF had her first baby in Peru and it was C-section... but then she had her 2nd here in Canada and she was given an option for natural or c-section.
