Effacement and dilation

So, I had my 36 week appointment today...went in earlier because of stronger contractions and I am 3 1/2 cm dilated and 90% effaced today. If any of you ladies were near these measurements at your last couple appointments how soon after this did you go into labor?
Do u think effacement helps with dilating faster?

Efacing & dilating go hand in hand.  Efacing is your cervix thinning out & getting ready for delivery.  My hospital admits you once you're dilated to 4cm or your water breaks....sounds like you're close!

Yea ik people can go weeks dilated, but hopefully my contractions get strong enough to help me dilate ASAP :) I'm feeling so tired!

Yea same here.. I've been admitted three times but let go because of no change in dilation, but they haven't been able to stop my contractions. I'm off all meds so hopefully I progress now that I'm 36 weeks. I'm just do tired already as well and have gotten any sleep :/.

My dr/hospital wouldn't induce you at 36 weeks unless you're water breaks but you're not dilating.  36 weeks is still early & they would prefer baby to stay in for another week or 2 at least.  I've been contracting for a few weeks now, only 33 weeks & only dilated to 1cm.  My friend was dilated to 3cm for over 2 weeks.

I've been in and out of the hospital for the past three weeks for preterm labour. And slowly dilating with contractions every 2-3 mins picking up on the monitors I finally chkd myself out I've been told at this stage now and since I hit 35 wks that they won't stop labour but they also won't help it progress until I reach term at 37 wks. I'm now about the same measurements as you btwn 3-4cms and 90% effaced and 36 wks today saw my ob on Tuesday and have been out of the hospital four days now also hoping things will pick up on its own getting tiring not being able to sleep and constantly having contractions but as all the obs on call as well as my own ob have explained it to me even thought at 35-36 wks there's little to no risk to baby is she came on her own there is still a chance she could have something go wrong with a punctured lung or sucking and feeding and they won't take that risk by being the cause of it if she comes she comes they certainly won't stop it and if I'm still here contracting at 37 wks they have no problems inducing me then because she is term but for the moment every day she stays inside is just better for her. Sorry post is so long and hope it helped. Good luck keep me posted!!!!

Now since I'm still having contractions... If I go to the hospital and I'm still 3 1/2 cm (and they won't try to stop my contractions since I'm 36 weeks)..but I'm not dilating, do u think they will give me pitocin to help me dilate or would they just let my body work on its own??
