Strep b

How can I prevent my baby from getting strep b once we are at home? And can I still breast feed?

Sorry, it posted before I was done.
The only thing that Strep B changed was that I had to have antibiotics running through me via an IV, and I had one extra night in the hospital so they could monitor my son to make sure he didn't get sick. It's only a threat when you give birth.

They give you the antibiotics thru the I.v. the only way your baby could get it, is if they didn't treat you and some of the bacteria gets in them.. Strep b is more common than you think.. Once they give u the meds, you are OK.. Some moms never get it.. Some moms have it for one of there kids but not the rest.. It varies.. There really isn't anything you can do to prevent it..

I tested positive my doctor told me they do the antibiotics while in l&d because he can only be harmed while he passes through the vagina

If you test positive for strep b they just give you an antibiotic when you go into labor to keep everything balanced.

Oh yes you can still breast feed.  You are more likely to test positive if you've been ill with something.  It a common bacteria that lives in all "bodies."  When your immune system gets low like it can with pregnancy you test positive since your balance is out of whack.

Kind of like those old deoderant commercials.  PH balance for a man but made for a woman...  Sorry could think of a way to better describe.

Hope this helps out.
