H1N1 flu shot

H1N1 flu shot

Just curious how many pregnant ladies are going to get the H1N1 flu shot? I can probably get it now if I make the effort to drive a little farther away, but my husband doesn't think it is the best thing to do right now. I'm 35 weeks this past Monday and I've been hurting a lot more the last week with lower back pain, pelvic pain, sometimes sharp shooting pain down the cervix/birth canal. It is getting harder for me to move faster these days. Plus I'm afraid if the shot is safe or not. Any thoughts?

I'm supposed to get the H1N1 flu shot this friday. I'm still a little sketched out but I trust my doctor and she suggested I get it. Wish me luck!

I wish it were available here already in Texas, but it's not.  I would definately drive a little ways to get it if I found somewhere that had it.  My OB and family doctor both recommended it and told me if I found somewhere to get it to get it.  I am way more worried about contracting the H1N1 and how dangerous it is for a pregnant women than I am the vaccine.  It is also dangerous for us if we contract it even a month after we deliver.  Not only that I want my baby to have the antibodies from the vaccine when she gets here.  I don't go out in public at all any more and last week some how I caught a stomach virus I thought was the flu at first.  I guess my husband brought it home to me but he was never sick. It just showed me how easy it is to catch something even if you are extremely careful.  It helped with my decision to get the vaccine.
Sorry for the book!

I hope you feel better. It sounds like you are getting close to your little ones arrival with the pains!  What ever you feel you should do, do it.  You are the one that is at higher risk.  Good luck!

So this is crazy. After I post my question I called my regular dr.'s and they told me they did have the h1n1 shot. Which shocked me because I haven't heard anything about it in my area besides driving north an 1 hour or 2. So now that I can get it easily I'm more scared about getting. I think that I will, but I just hope my little guy is safe from all this afterwards. I'm so worried that something will go wrong years down the road like Autism or something much worse. But I agree that I would rather get the shot too and not be in a coma. It scares me. My dr.'s will only do me for now and not my kids. They are trying to do the pregnant women and children with chronic illnesses. I hope my kids stay safe from this. So far so good.

I know it is scary but it is good you have it available to you.  From what I have researched it is made just like the seasonal flu shot which people have been getting for years upon years.  I pray your kids stay safe too, I pray all of us stay safe!  It scares me too but I really trust my OB who does not get paid to give or promote this H1N1 vaccine like so many people are saying doctors do.  My mom had a coworker who went to a funeral this weekend for a pregnant woman who died from complications of the swine flu in her third trimester.  Her baby did make it but she never even got to see the baby.  It's so sad.

Hi,
I am 36 weeks pregnant and I wont be getting it.  they say it is safe for baby and you but I dont think sufficient testing has been completed to take the risk.  It is available for pregnant women for up to 6 weeks after the birth and I may get it then once I know baby is safe

I have changed my mind...I am getting it tomorrow morning as my doctor recommended it.  It will be the adjuvenated version.  At least this way the baby will be protected for up the the 1st 6 months..

I got mine 2 days ago with much hesitation like a lot of people out there saying there's not much research done.  My dr. was very thorough and explained it all to me.  She told me it's processed the same way as the regular seasonal flu vaccine, it just has the H1N1 strain.  She also told me that not only would I be protected, but so will my baby when she's born. I was also told that the risks of not getting it are worse.  If I did get the flu, my dr. said that I would most likely end up being given Tamiflu which she's more concerned about than just having the vaccine. As far as the thimerosal found in the H1N1 vaccine that people say may cause Autism, the amt. found in the vaccine is less than eating a can of tuna.  There also hasn't been extensive research to conclusively say that thimerosal causes Autism.  In the end, it is an individual's choice and whatever you choose to do, I'm sure you're doing in the best interest for you and your baby.

My deciding factors for getting the vaccine:
1) I'm an elementary school teacher - I am exposed to all kinds of illnesses.
2) I trust my doctor.
3) I didn't want to risk it and get very sick.

I got mine on Wednesday...stood in line for 5 hours!!!! From 8 am - 1 pm...but it's worth it in the long run...I haven't had any reactions to it and the my little baby is still kicking inside! :) I only got the swine flu vaccine for our son so it was worth it!
