very close to gaving birth

I started having contraction yesterday and they were 5 to 6 min apart so i had to go the hospital to get it checked out. The intensity of the contraction started out moderate when we arrived there, they checked me and i was from 2cm the day before and now it was 3. They keep me for 2 hrs with an I.V fluid and checked me again, it changed again to 4cm, the pain of back labor is painful if i were to be on active labor i would asked for an epidural right away but they said im not. The contraction were more spread apart after giving me the iv, but the pain on my lower back was more intense. So they decided to keep me overnight for observation, also my mucous plug was starting to come out. It was little brown stringy discharge and it keeps on having more and more. This morning it started to turn pink to red so i thought i was on active labor but when they check me i was still 4 cm, so they send me home with no medicine to stop the contraction. The only way is to drink a lot of fluid, and with the pain when i have my contraction my dr said to take tylenol. Which im afraid to take, i just don't want to chance it. They also said not to worry about back labor but more if you feel like a cramping feeling on your lower abdomen and if you feel like pushing or feel like having a bowel movement. So basically im confused, because i would have known what to expect since i experienced it before with my daughter, which i had back labor and not so on the abdomen. Im so scared since im that close to having this baby and ready to gave birth, but they said if he could stay in for another week since im 35 weeks and 5 days today, so about 37 weeks. They couldn't induce me because the baby was stil preterm, so that's it wish me luck....

Thank you all ladies for you comments, i hope i can stand this contraction that's been hurting my back since tuesday. It's very hard to sleep at night when you have the contraction and that pain, beside that going to the bathroom every hour or so. I just can't wait to gave birth already, they said one more week but for me that seems like an eternity when your having so much pain and that close to seeing this little boy inside of me. It was only yesterday we began our journey to pregnancy and counting weeks and months came by so easily, now a week seems a long time for me......

sounds like you were dehydrated.....you mentioned after the IV the contractions subsided some. My birthing instructor reminded us each class....drink as much water as you can stand or the Braxton Hicks will give you false labor pains early on. She described what you went thru as to what would happen. I have BH now almost daily....but they arent painful...just uncomfortable mainly.

My doula said if you are having back labor you could try using a birthing ball to lay over (dog style) and she said it would relieve some of the pressure if your trying natural childbirth or sitting on the birthing ball and rocking(pilates ball) she also said sitting on the birthing ball and rocking can help you to dialate if you have already started

good luck Shiela 2199!  I hope you get some relief from the back pain. Baby, stay put just a little longer...
My doc took me off medication and bedrest at about 36 weeks, and said if baby decided to come they would not try to stop it. She felt confident that he would be ok, even though 36 weeks is considered pre-term.

Hang in there! I can't believe they sent you home with it being your second child. I'm surprised they didn't keep you in the hospital on something to stop the contractions if they want you to make it longer. WOW!  Rest and drink a lot.  Good luck!
