Yolk Sac and Heartbeat but No Pole?!

Hi!  I went for my 1st u/s today to confirm the pregnancy was in-utero (had a m/c in Jan), and they found a Gestational sac, a Yolk Sac, and saw a fluttering heartbeat at the edge of the sac.  The one thing missing was the fetal pole! {?}  The OB won't try to date me until next week.  Has anyone ever seen a yolk sac with a fluttering heartbeat but no pole?  If so, how far along were you?  I thought I was about 6.5 weeks.

Thanks!  I'm actually not worried, because the OB seemed to think that a heartbeat was positive.  She was just so unclear about the fetal pole, and could not point it out.  The picture looked like a blob with a flutter at the edge of it!  Maybe it's the age of the equipment.  I'll wait until next week to worry if things don't change, but I'm quite positive now that we've seen a heartbeat! :-)

I agree with BNY, try posting on another forum b/c I don't know either.. I know it's tearing your heart out with worry! Just be strong and encouraged that you saw a heartbeat. Let us know what you learn.

huh.. i've never heard of that before,, maybe it was just a mistake on the ultrasoundographers part or something.. i think if it has a heartbeat it has a pole, right?  what did your dr say?     well seeing a heartbeat makes your risk of miscarriage go WAAAAY down, to 3-5%... so thats great great news that your little one has a fluttering heart! : )   keep us updated, but i just don't see how that could be correct! maybe try posting it on the fertility forum and see if there are any responses... good luck! : )
