Antibiotics and the Mini Pill

I have been trying to find the answer to this question since the day before I started my antibiotics for my tooth. I have been off them for over a week now and just wanted to know how long it effects the effectiveness of the mini pill. Just wanting to make sure I am covered. Some say 4 weeks and others say 6 so Idk. Me and DH want another baby but not yet so I need to be on the safe side. Thanks in advance.

I know that about it not being as effective on the pack it doesnt tell you this but I found it online that if you take it just 3 hrs late its ineffective for 48 hrs. And I was on pinacillian to prevent a infection in my tooth plus on the paper it said it reacted with the BC. So I wanted to make sure it was out of my system so that we dont give her a sibling yet b/c I want to try a VBAC and you have to wait 18 months and that wont work if we get pregnant right now.

Not to mention the mini pill isn't as effective to begin with.... I'd be careful lil lady or you may be giving Naomi a sibling haha

Actually, most antibiotics do effect the pill because of the way they effect your digestion. If you are taking them, your body may not digest the pill hormones right and in a sense just flush them out of your system. I was on antibiotics a few years ago before Jacob and I think they told me that the antibiotics should be out in about a week, but to just be careful.

I believe in general, anything to rid or prevent an infection isn't compatible with the birth control pill so use other protection.

Im not sure either but I would either contact my doctor or the pharamist (msp) and ask.

It depends. Not all antibiotics effect the pill. It should say on your prescription if it does and if it does effect it than contact your doctor and ask.
