Dr. Questions!! help!

I am switching doctors, and will be seeing my new doctor on Tuesday. Mind you, this IS NOT by choice, my doctor (the doctor who I love and who delivered my daughter) is moving away so his last time to see me was 2 weeks ago. I'm very sad!  :-(

ANYWAY... I have this new doctor who I know nothing about...  can you ladies think of any questions I should ask her?!! Questions to understand her methods and what not... please help. I have a small list of questions, but i wanna make sure I'm not forgetting some really important ones!

Thanks!!!

That stinks that you have to get a new doctor so close to delivery. :(

I would ask if she is board certified. What her view is on induction and c-sections. What is the % of births that she herself attends vs. someone in her practice. If she is planning to take any holidays soon. Which hospitals she delivers at (if there are more than one in your area). If she does massage during labor to help you not tear or if she likes to give episiotomies. What her view is on pain medication during labor and if you are allowed to get up and walk around. Those are the only things I can think of off the top of my head.

I would ask about what your birth plans are.  Do you want an epidural or do you want to go more natural?  If you want to go more natural ask what she does to help with that.  If labor slows down ask if she will be required to break your water or if you'll be able to let nature take it's course.  Also If you want to birth in a different position ask her thoughts on that (for example, I'm hoping to give birth in a squatting or on all 4's, my midwife just delivered a baby that way with another lady).

Ask at what point she would consider stripping your membranes to help naturally induce labor.  Ask she she will induce (My first birth it was at 42 weeks, this time it's 41 1/2, every dr is different with this).

Ask if there will be any med students helping.  Some women aren't comfortable with it.  If there are students who would normally help you can always request that they don't help with you if you are concerned (with my first I had a lot of different students and it didn't bother me, it's a personal choice).

Um...The most important thing is just go over your "birth" plan and make sure she's ok with everything.
