Myth? Your labour will somewhat match your mother's?

Just wondering if anyone has heard about it or if their experiences were similar to their mother's labour experiences? I know with my brother and I...we both came early and both times by Mom had just laid down for bed and her water broke. So I wonder...what are the odds of the same thing for myself?
LOL I don't want my water to break when I'm in bed!! Good thing I have a mattress protector!! She told me yesterday I should keep garbage bags and an extra pair of pants in the car..just in case! haha I already have garbage bags in there but I never thought about my water breaking other than at the hospital!

Hi I was told the same thing but for me my pregnancies and labour haven't been like my ums at all and my mum went late with all pregnancies where my first was c section and my second was natural at 37'5 day and labour very quick with no complications so I think it is really individual. Lucky for me. Good luck I know I am counting down to bubs arrival

I haven't heard of this myth either.  The only possible thing that could support this myth in my family was that we all gave birth VERY close to the due dates we figured out (and the doctors were often considerably off).  But... that could just be due to the women in my family knowing a lot about their cycles and when they conceived.

Other than that, none of the labors my mother and I had were similar.  She always had back labor, I never did.  I'm pretty sure her water broke with each of her kids - it only happened to me once out of three kids.  I had a 28 hour labor - her longest, I believe, was about 10-12 hours.  My kids all came out easily, for my mom- only I came out easily (very little pushing, that is - not implying labor is easy!)

A garbage bag is a good idea for the car - but I found a nice, thick towel did well enough - and it was a lot more comfortable!  As for the pants, I just wore dresses/skirts during the last month to help prevent problems. :)

everyone is different, i have never heard of this myth. i would be more embarassed of it happening in public! lol when i was in labour, they asked me to lye on my left hand side to help my waters to break. my baby was born then my waters followed. i was three days early. its hard to say, just be prepared for when it happens!

I think there is some truth to it, but I'm not sure how much.  My mom had both my sister and I at one week late.  With my sister (the oldest) her labor was longer, and her labor with me was really short.  With my first labor I was 2 weeks late and only went into labor from having my membranes stripped, then things stalled and the dr broke my water (my mom didn't have those issues with her labor).  This time around I've been having early labor signs for well over a week now (including a "false" labor) and my mom never had that.  So, I guess I would say that some parts might be similar and others not as much.
