Uhhh... Constipation???

Ummm, so my friend is constipated and she's pregnant and wanted me to ask if there are any remedies??
ok girls, just kidding... my "friend"...yeah, that's me, so tell me, is there anything we can take for this? I never had any problems with constipation my first pregnancy. It's not terrible, just ya know, not "normal".

I know water is supposed to help... but what else, what else can we do as pregnant women?

I work in a hospital in hospitality, the nurses order pear juice for the patients that are constipated it really works and if it's a bad case they have 4 prunes at morning tea plus the pear juice and same again at afternoon tea time, i know this works really well, i am also constipated here and there but i can't bring myself to eat prunes they look like dead cockroaches to me but the pear juice on it's own works for me.

I've been bit by the constipation bug too!!

I really don't want to resort to medicine. I do eat tons of veggies and drink my water and fluids so I'm kinda stumped. I'm hoping it wasn't the Easter chocolate that we hit up this past weekend. I swear... I only had a few pieces and that's it!! *cross my heart*

So I was blocked up last week after weeks of diarrhea. The doctor and nurse told me to  drink plenty of water because I asked about Metamucil. So I said I'll give it a chance and I drank a lot of water and by the end of the day I was regular again. I felt so much relief so I would say try drinking a lot of water and see if that helps out.

I was told by my nurse that Milk of Magnesia i okay to take during pregnancy as long as you don't take it all the time because your body will become dependent on it. Im a little scared as I've never taken a laxative except once and it was awful... but I'm willing to try it, I just feel so bloated and uncomfortable some days...

im having this problem bad, but I have always struggled with it. I was taking Metamucil twice a day before I finally got my BFP, but i take medication morning and evening now and you shouldn't take Metamucil two hours either side of taking medication as it MIGHT stop absorption of the medication. I think im going to have to try and remember to take it mid day and see if that helps.

Ok... so, this morning I resorted to drinking a little bit of coffee!! And IT HELPED!!
I know, I know, coffee is not good, and I have completely given it up... until this morning. I was sick of being blocked up for the past couple of days! Ugh, and yeah... it really helped, I feel 100% better!! I poured 1/2 a cup of coffee and sipped it slowly, I only drank about 1/3 of it.... but that was all it took.
Good luck to all the girls struggling with this!

You can take a regular stool softener...just go to a pharmacy and ask the pharmasist...that's what I did last time.  I hear ya...it's been a problem with me too....ugh....i think water does help also....

Sounds like a good plan to me! Hope its working! I've been eating yogurt daily too, never thought of saying that. I haven't tried prune juice, though I have been drinking grapefruit, orange, cranberry (to keep yeast away) and lemonade ( to help with morning sickness).

I right there with you as well. I'm just not helping down the healthy stuff most of the time. Yogurt does help though!

Thank you ladies! I'm feeling a lot better today. I'm not used to this since I was so regular before and with my first and second pregnancies I never had this problem either.
...I got some prunes, and I'm going to start eating Activia yogurt, and making sure I drink a lot of water... possibly with some metamucil! :) Fruits and veggies are really hard for me to eat, so that may be why I'm all blocked up. I am usually a very healthy eater, but now that i'm pregnant, all the good stuff just doesn't wanna stay down!!

Thanks for your help ladies!!!

I had that problem during my last pregnancy, so fr this time I'm not doing tooo bad. I am having a BM either every day or every other.
Eating lots of fruit and veggies helps, and of course water!

I would definitely try metamucil or tablets to (if you don't like the mix to put into the water)... I have personally never had that problem with any of my pregnancies (#3 for me)  but I have had plenty of friends that have had the problem... I hope you feel better soon :P
