Weight Gain

Ok I lost 8 pounds since my last visit to my OBs office b/c of the morning sickness so they put me on antinausea meds to make the sickness go away so I could gain weight. I am 14 weeks and 4 days pregnant and I know I need to be gaining weight but its not happening. What should I do? Please give me some advice I dont want my baby to suffer b/c Im not gaining like I am supposed to.

Don't worry too much... the baby will take what he/she needs. I threw up every single day with both of my boys and believe me, they didn't suffer because of it. I gained less weight but they were both healthy =)

great advice everyone!!!

Something that may help you gain a little weight is peanut butter and jelly (or honey) sandwiches. When I'm feeling like I need a snack, I'll take one piece of whole grain bread and put some peanut butter (or Almond Butter since peanut butter is a little "iffy") with jelly or honey and it's delicious!!

Also, if you like avocado, you can make guacamole!! Best to make it with little or no salt for a healthy snack that will also give you lots of great nutrients, vitamins and healthy fats that your baby needs! :) It tastes great just on lettuce leaves if you don't want to eat with corn chips. But pita chips are also an option!!! :)

I've lost 5 lb and not gaining any weight yet.  Don't stress about it and don't "try" to make yourself gain weight as it might just make you feel worse.  Eat healthy and if you need to eat small meals more frequently.

At 20 weeks with my first pregnancy I lost about 10 lb and didn't gain weight till after the 20 weeks.  Not gaining weight won't effect the baby, the baby will get what it needs from you.

My midwife is concerned as I've only lost so far and I'll be 15 weeks on Wednesday, but she's not THAT concerned.  If your still loosing weight at 20 weeks you may want to look into it more.

Its common in the first trimester to loose weight. I only weighed like 98 lbs my first pregnancy and I lost about 10 lbs. My doctor wasnt concerned and by the end of the pregnancy I had gained 30 on top of the 10 I lost.

With my son I only gained about 15 pounds the whole time so I bet it will pick up in a month or so! I'm concerned that I haven't gained anything yet. Losing weight when you're pregnant is always scary but normal for some women! EAT GIRL EAT!

I think that if you're not gaining weight yet, you should feel lucky. You WILL gain weight, it's inevitable. Although I have heard of and seen girls who I thought were about 4 months pregnant, come to find out they were 8 months...and they had healthy normal sized babies! Where they hid their babies in their small bodies, i have no idea!!!  Some girls just don't gain that much weight but their babies are just fine.

First of all you need to look at your diet, and how much you're actually eating. What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Make sure you're getting in all the major food groups, fruits, veggies, diary, grains. If you're not into eating meat for protein, try eating some nuts or beans. Sandwiches made on whole grain bread with lettuce, tomato, avacado, cheese and some meat are also a great choice for lunch. Breakfast- eggs are extremely good for pregnant women and have even been shown to help reduce the chances of some birth defects. Cereal is what I have to eat every morning... I eat a healthy cereal like raisin bran or something.

Don't worry that you're not gaining too much weight yet, that's OK. You're just 14 weeks, and with my first pregnancy I didn't gain much the first tri either. Now that you're feeling better, you will hopefully be able to keep foods down and you will start gaining the weight that you and you baby need you to gain. Just eat healthy foods, and as long as you're keeping them down, I wouldn't worry!! Keep us posted!
