Holding your baby to much?

After bottle feeding my son I hold him and keep him up a little bit until he gets too sleepy and falls asleep on me. I love letting him sleep on me and I don't see a problem with it but my husband and my mother tell me to put him in his bassinet right away because I'm going to spoil him and he'll never want to be put down. I was 40 weeks and 4 days overdue when I had him on October 25th. It was a very hard delivery which almost ended in a c-section. I'm sorry but I think being a brand new mommy to a less than 2 week old baby I should be able to hold my son and let him sleep on me. Advice?

Someone sd u can't spoil your baby because they are too young to manipulate you....I will hold my baby because I want her to feel secure and know she is loved. .I hold her and whisper in her ear I love you

Spoiled? Thats ridiculous! So when you were holding your baby inside you for almost 10 months...was that spoiling your baby? And if the baby is bonding with you and becomes what some call spoiled... So what...they are only babies for so long. Insay hold that baby as much as you please. I hold mine..and I have month 4 week old b/g twins..and I hold during the feed..after the feed..asleep awake..whatever.. Whatever time I can have with them..I take it. Besides..Im back to work in two weeks. I plan to cherish every moment I have with them. And no one will discourage me from holding them. Ever!

Putting a baby down immediately and saying a small baby will is spoiled is very old fashioned thinking. Babies need to feel secure, feel your warmth and hear your heartbeat to comfort them. Babies are not used to having all the space around them, compared with being snug in the womb, which is why we swaddle and hold them. Holding a baby close and keeping them in a sling next to your body is shown to reduce postnatal depression. So yes, holding baby is good for baby and good for mother.

My baby girl is 5 weeks and sometimes I even hold her for hours while she's sleeping during the day, but at night I settle her into her Moses basket. Enjoy it while you can, all to quickly they'll be toddlers and not want to be held for long, then they are older and your lucky you get one hug a day. It's impossible to "spoil" a newborn. I hate it when people say that. How can you spoil a baby when he/she has spent months inside you, warm, dark, cozy and being rocked gentler by your movements and listening img to your heartbeat. Babies need to be held to feel safe.

My boyfriend father said the same thing...but she is my baby and I'll hold her as much as I want. I rock her to sleep if she doesn't go after I bf her then I lay her down. But I'm just so mesmerized by her and I love looking at her I don't want to put her down...hmm oh well guess she'll be spoiled lol

Babies need to be held and loved on. My daughter actually won't fall asleep anymore unless she's being cuddled, but she is also go thru a growth spur. Cuddle your baby if that's what you want to do. It's your child and your parenting method. Do as you choose.

At that age, it is not possible to spoil a baby. They just don't have that kind of brain power yet.  After your baby is about 3 months old, then you can start thinking about that.  Right now, go ahead and hold your little one!

I think you need to trust your instincts, you're his mother. I've never heard of holding a baby too much to be a bad thing. I've actually heard it helps regulate hormones and body temperature. Hold that baby as much as you want.
