Such thing as too much nausea?

by shannonwooten, Jan 19, 2009 07:57PM
I am due at the beginning of Sept... I am 7 weeks pregnant! I know that nausea is something that I am going to have to deal with but... is there such thing as too much nausea?

I have not been able to eat all day yesterday and today. Yesterday I ate maybe a bowl of cereal and some mac and cheese. Today I ate a bowl of cereal and some fruit... I tried to eat soup but it wouldn't go down.

Should I see a doc? If not, when should I get concerned? I am starving but the thought of food makes me SICK!

Thanks!

I feel your pain.  I feel just awful and this is my 6th time, so I know that it lasts a long time for me.  I probably have about 8 weeks or so of this and it is horrible and seems like an eternity.  I don't see my doc until next Friday.  I will be 7 weeks and 5 days then.  I want some meds really bad.  It is very hard for me to work and then go home and take care of all of my kids when I feel the way I do.  I don't want to smell food or cook food or look at food most of the time.  I was able to eat a little bit this morning.  I have just been trying to eat very bland but healthy.  And I have also been eating very small (almost snack like) meals.

There are 2 medications.  One is called Phenegren (sp??) and one is called Zofran.  I have never used Zofran but have heard that it helps some and not others.  The same for Phenegren.  Phenegren I have taken before and I don't really remember it helping me much.  It does make you very sleepy though.  So that one is hard to take when you have to get really early.  It will just knock you out.

I hope you feel better.  Just know that you are not alone......The only break I get from it is when I sleep.  I actually broke down into tears last night because I could barely function......

Oh Michele and Shannon! I feel the same way...I want to cry!! I...I am about to call my doctor now to see if they can give me something..I was unable to function on Sunday and yesterday. I went to work today but had to drive with a plastic bag in my lap!! As soon as I got to work ..straight to the bathroom I went and have been sitting here at my desk throwing up in my garbage can since I logged on...I feel horrible...I just want to lay down and go to sleep, but everytime I close my eyes, the room starts to spin!!!

I am on Zofran (when I take it). I have a huge fear of taking drugs while pregnant. I would suggest if you are vomiting more than 3 times a day they will put you on something, they dont' do much for nausea. They will tell you to try:

Seabands (at the pharmacy)
Ginger
Crackers
Eating small amounts through out the day

Good luck! I feel your pain!

Oh ladies...I am so sorry.  It sounds awful.  Today was my first morning where I really fely nauseous and almost threw up.  I kept it down though!!  I am 7 weeks and 4 days so was hoping I would escape sickness since I have not really had it yet.  I try to constantly eat something and apparently big meals with liquids is a no-no.

Juana - You are not the first "driving with a bag" case I have heard!  My sister had terrible sickness throughout her pregnancy and did the same thing..many times!  In Canada there is a drug called Diclectin that is proven safe.  It is specifically for morning sickness, proven safe, and it helped her a lot.  Not sure if it is available in the US yet.

I've been on Zofran for 5 hours and so far I love it. The only thing.... one of the side effects is headachs.

It's kind of funny how it seems to be hitting a few of us just this week.

I got prescribed Zofran as well...It seems to help. Yesterday I took it and I still felt nauseated I just couldn't throw up. I know that sounds bad. Are you taking the pill or the desolve tab? I have the one that desolves in your mouth. I try to avoid taking unless absolutely necissary...could be why I only gained 19lb my last pregnancy. lol.

I have the disolve tab. The taste makes me feel sick for a minute or two, but then it kicks in almost right away. I love it! My last pregnancy I only gained 20 pounds because of the morning sickness also. Then again that was 10 years ago.
