Weight gain...when to worry...

by chantal21, Jun 24, 2009 03:05PM
I am just so worried about how much weight I have gained. It's always on my mind and I wish I didn't worry about it as much as I do. I am 26 weeks and have already gained 22 pounds! I was sick until 18 weeks and started gaining weight at week 16. From weeks 16-20 I had gained 6 pounds which I thought was pretty good...but now I feel it's out of control! Is it crazy to have gained 22 pounds in that amount of time?? I am freaking out and don't want to gain anymore than 30 pounds at the most. I was about 15 pounds overweight when I first got pregnant, so I thought I wasn't going to gain that much. With my son I gained exactly 30 pounds. Everyone I know has said I don't even look like I have gained any weight except  for my growing belly of course. My family has even said I looked like I gained way more with my first, then I have this time around. My midwife isn't concerned, but I sure am! Am I overreacting? Is it okay? I don't know why I worry about it, maybe because I know how hard it was for me to lose the baby weight with my son. I just need support...I still fit into most of my normal clothes, so I am confused about this weight gain. Thanks ladies!!

GIRL, you are not alone. I have gained a total of 20 lbs already and I was 10 lbs over weight before I was preggo. I don't even want to weight myself anymore. The same thing is happening to me people tell me I'm looking good and all the weight is in my belly. I FEEL SO UNATTRACTIVE is not even funny. In the begining I LOVED the glowing I had, how my hair was full and shinny, now my face is breaking out and I'm sooo lazy I don't even want to blow dry my hair. LOL

I had lost some weight and then it ALL CAME BACK overnight.....I was hoping to only gained 28 lbs but I don't think that will happen. If 28 lbs that will put me at exactly 198 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm 5'7 and it scares me to think that I will be close to 200 lbs. WOW....I thought I was the only one. I think about it ALL THE TIME TOO, it's pretty sad. I want my baby to be healthy but I don't want to be fat afterwards, LOL.

We will see what happends in the last couple of weeks....................................................................

I'm glad I am not alone. I am 5'8" and with my son I started out at 174 and ended at 204!!! I was so disgusted by that. lol. Thankfully I lost 15 pounds as soon as I delivered. This time around I started at 170 and I'm already 192!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. We sound so much alike though! I am hoping I only gain another 8 pounds and not go over 200. We'll see. I am trying not to worry about it...but it's so hard. I feel so guilty even feeling this way because I am pregnant and I thought you weren't supposed to be worried about your weight while preggo. Oh well! Hang in there girl! We'll be okay. I actually started doing yoga and some pilates and I also plan on doing some in-home walking. We'll see!

It is on my mind too.  I had my OBGYN appt Tues and they weighed me....I gained 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks!  Total 25 pounds so far.  I am 30 weeks tomorrow but still - I thought I would gain between 25 and 30 but it will probably be more like 35 in total.  I was a little under weight to start off with but it still seems like a lot to me. As long as my baby is healthy I try not to worry too much.  My OBGYN has not mentioned it as a concern either.

Most people are nice and say it's "all belly" but my family is a little more honest!  "Your butt is wider", "You have gained weight in your face",  "Your boobs are bigger/huge/saggy", "You look chunky".  Now they also say things like "You look healthy" and I don't think they mean for me to be offended (not sure how) but it is hard to hear...pregnant or not!

To top it off I have placenta previa and restrictions on activity so can't do the yoga and the walking that I had planned to.

Well...it will be over soon ladies.  Before you know it we will be saying how we lost 5 pounds in a week right??

lol that's so funny Stacey! I'm hoping I'm saying that right after I leave the hospital...LOL we will see...I'm trying not to become obessed about it....but it's hard not too. When I look at my wedding pics from 3 years ago, it almost makes me wanna cry! hahahahahh

I started out over weight also. I'm 5'6 and was at 164 then lost because I was so sick and went down to 150. Now as of yesterday I'm back up to 174 so total gain of 24 pounds so far. It ***** I love being pregnant, but this weight is a little depressing. I try not to think about it and know that this is one of the times in my life where it's okay to get heavy. My favorite all time movie is Gone with the Wind and when the weight gets me down I just say what Scarlette would say... I won't think about that today, I'll think about that tomorrow. Tomorrow being the end of September that's when I'm sure we'll all be whining about those extra pounds, but until then pass me another gummie bear!

Thanks ladies. I don't feel so alone now. I love being pregnant but it gets to me...this whole weight thing! I need to just get over it and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy!! IT's weird, I don't even eat that much more than I used to. I could see if I was munching on stuff (unhealthy stuff) all day long, then that wouldn't be good. I honestly eat like I used to, before I was pregnant. Hmmmm. It's all a part of pregnancy!! =)

Well, I know how all of you feel.  I stess about my weight all the time.  Yet, if it were someone else, I would tell them not to worry about it.  Easier said than done though!!

I eat well too.  I eat diet food all day and still manage to put on my fair share of weight.  I went to the doc on Friday (6-26) and have put on about 20 pounds total so far.  I was hoping to not do more than 25 pounds BUT, now I am hoping not to do more than 30.  I was about 8 or 9 pounds over my usual weight myself, when I got pregnant this time.  This is my 6th baby and I have always gotten down back to my normal weight before getting pregnant again, but not this time.  So, I think that is what has got my stressed more.  But I plan on starting a work out routine as soon as I am able after having this one.  However I have done that in the past, and it just doesn't seem to come off until it is good and ready for some reason.  At least for me.  Plus, since I breastfeed, you can't really diet.  You actually need to take in more calories for your milk supply so.......Like you all have said.  We have plenty of time to worry about our weight and to get the weight off......

Ahhhh.....The joys of pregnancy.......
