Do you want to cut or tear?

I'm putting together a birth plan and was just curious what you ladies think about the cut vs. tear debate? I'm leaning towards cutting since with my first I opted to tear and oh boy did I tear.

I was thinking about putting in the birthplan that I want to make it a game time decision meaning if the doc thinks I'm going to tear then I want her to cut instead.

if you think your going to go into labour ad your only 32 wks with a small baby id wait another 2-3 wks to start the massage, but i  know my babies are all over 9lb so i started bit earlier use almond oil or KY OR ANY LUBRICANT EVEN OLIVE OIL IS GOOD AS WELL AS AN EVENING PRIMROSE CAPSULE SPLIT OPEN THATS GREAT FOR THE SKIN THERE, IT DOESNT NEED TO BE DEEP THO JUST GET DH to put a couple of fingers in about halfway then sweep them backward slightly stretch as he goes backwards towards your bottom, you also ned to rub and massage your perenium just stretching it out,  it really works so good luck xxx

Bimbicat- same thing here I had to have another surgery to repair the tears I had 3 4th degree tears picture a Y. We're doing the perenial massage now and have been for the last few weeks.

Latrice- no joke it was 2am and they said I was disturbing the other moms. My response was to drop a whole bunch of Fbombs. 15 minues later I was getting the epi.

Bimbicat....so you start the massage at 32 weeks? I will tell my hubby to start...I wonder if I can get away with not tearing this time....but I am still on bedrest...is that a no no still then? ehh...we'll see I guess. Hubby might be too tempted for something else...considering how long he has been suffering....LOL. Poor guy!!
I have an appt. tomorrow so I will double check with my midwife and see what she says.

LOL at Nicmom: At they gave it to you to shut you up lol thats funny.

Im going with the flow, i will withstand the pain as long as i can, if i cant take it, hey, thats what the meds are four.  With my son (14years ago) i was in labor for 28 hours, they had to break water bag and induce me, hour 26 contractions where so bad i think they were overlaping each other lol, i got the epi and he came 2 hours later.  I dont think this baby will be that big so im going in with open mind that i wont tear or need to be cut, im not sure which i would prefer.

Massaging the VJ, that sounds interesting, is that suppose to be done while your in labor or like right now:)  I wonder if i can get them to do that in PT, they massage my whole butt cheek bcuz i get bad pains in it lol.

For giggles, i was watching the birthing channel as i due every mourning.  The OB Dr said he always encourage his patients to take pain meds, he figures why be in pain. He further says, i dont no why some dont take them and they are so miserable and in so much pain, its not like your gona win a medal or someone is going to say your a bad mom or your not a woman bcuz you got pain meds.  He further goes on to say, when you go to the Dentist to get a tooth pulled you dont say hay Doc, dont numb me up, just pull the tooth, heck, you get the pain medication, thats what its for lol, i almost pee d myself when he said that, it was to funny at the time.

I voted to tear naturally. My mom had to be cut twice and she had a horrible experience. She had so many stitches and took a long time to heal. With my son I tore and to this day I have no clue how bad it was really and it was completely healed 3-4 weeks after giving birth. My midwife said it wasn't that bad at all and my son was big! I plan on going natural again after the experience I had with my son. If all goes the same, it should be a smooth and even easier than my first. I honestly wasn't in that much pain until I hit 9cm and the midwife broke my water. Then it really hit me...the last 5-6 hours was very painful (and I will admit, if I was in the hospital, I would have gotten an epidural at that point), but as soon as his head was out, I literally felt no more pain. It was so strange and a relief. And since I will be at a birthing center (so long as I make it to 36 weeks) then I have no option for the epi...if I go to the hospital, I may be tempted to get one. lol.

Awe! You can do it!!! =] But as you said, I'm going in with an open mind...I'm gonna try to hold off as long as I can. But if it gets to the point I can't handle it, and they say I'm within limit I can get the epi, I will go for it.

I'm thinking about trying to go natural. If I can manage the contractions then I'll go natural, but if I'm an out of control lunatic like with my first baby then I'll get the epi. I don't even think I asked for it that time they just gave it to me to shut me up. Looking back I was already 10cm so who knows maybe I can do it all the way this time around.

So, I've heard so many stories about the cut vs. the tear...Some ladies have told me that if you tear naturally its a better healing process, but then the cut, sometimes they cut too big... Me I voted for the cut, just because I know they can numb you. I had this done at 27 weeks and had to be cut in the area already, and use to the feeling.

Now the massages, hmmm never heard of that... This being mine and the boyfriends first, he is kinda getting antsy and so nervous, who knows what he will do. =]

Also, is anyone planning on going natural or with meds? Just curious... I want to go ALL natural, but right now she is transverse breech so I guess depending if she turns or not will be the answer...

P.s I love poll questions...We should do more often...Kinda passes the week...For those of us that aren't working, and of course on bedrest. =]

Oh also are any of you doing perinal massages? I know such a creepy concept. Hey does your dh massage your vj? lol Seriously I didn't do that with my first, but the midwife from my childbirth class says it makes a big difference.
