Embarrassing question....

This is really strange to me...after my midwife checked my cervix yesterday, I noticed I became really itchy and dry down there. I tried to survey the situation and it looks a little red and just a tiny bit swollen maybe. It's so irritated and hurts! It's that feeling like if I dry up when I'm having sex....only it won't go away. (DH and I have not done the deed in over 3 weeks) It's driving me nuts. It just feels really dry and yesterday I tried to put a cool washcloth down there to see if it would help. It only helped until I removed the washcloth. I'm not sure if I had some reaction to the midwife checking me or what. Maybe the gel or the gloves? But this is the 2nd time she has checked me and the first time nothing happened.
I have some poison ivy (not much) that my DH passed along to me and I noticed my belly button was really itchy and it looked like I had it in there. YUCK! That is just about gone and of course when I first noticed how dry I was down there, I immediately thought the poison ivy spread there...which would be really weird and I have no clue how that could have happened. But from what I can tell, it doesn't look like it has. It's just driving me insane more than anything. Any ideas? It's so embarrassing and I would feel stupid for calling my OB or midwife, but maybe I should if it continues. Also, I was just treated for BV 2 weeks ago (never had any symptoms and finished all my meds) Thanks girls for listening to my crazines!!!

The strange thing is, my discharge has really slowed down since last wed. I hardly have any this week. It's weird. I was having a lot of discharge from 27 weeks until I hit 30 weeks. No smells, no abnormal discharge, just really dry and itchy. I am going to call my OB first thing tomorrow and see if she can take a swab and see what it is. Today hasn't been too too bad, but definitely still itchy and annoying. If I had a bathtub I would certainly take a warm bath..but we only have a stand up shower at the moment. =( in the next month or so my bathroom upstairs should be done and I will have a nice new tub! I am hoping it's not poison ivy though, because that would just be plain weird. We'll see!

It honestly sounds like a yeast infrection to me...  Now I know that prior to pregnancy I was always pretty yeasty "down there," or that's what my doctor said when I had a pap smear once.  Any who... since pregnancy, I have had three yeast infections... :(  And the only way that I was sure that it was one, is after my hubby and I were "done," it really hurt down there and it felt super dryed up, not to mention the fact that it itched and the first time I actually broke out with little bumps down there because the yeast wasn't just in my vagian and it was on the skin down there which itched terribly!!!  Not to mention I would have to change my underwear like three times a day because of how much discharge I get.  Are you having any abnormal dischagre?  I know that I have been EXTREAMLY wet down there for the past two days along with a funny dischage... and itching!!!  So yey another yeast infection for me!!!  Any who you can try taking a warm bath to kind of wash out what ever is down there (usually that makes it better tempearly better, and if it comes back I would say yeast infection and to call your midwife/ob and they will either recomend you take some oral antibiotics or something like monostate... good luck and I hope this helps a little bit.

I never heard back from my midwife...she is usually pretty quick at responding, so maybe she had a birth. I was going to call the OB but it's sat. now and it's not like it's a total emergency. I was using benadryl cream on the rest of my poision ivy, so I decided to put some down there...it has helped so much and I barely feel itchy anymore!! Hopefully it's okay to use. If it's not gone by monday I will call my midwife or OB and be seen to see what is going on....it's crazy!

Ok..I e-mailed my midwife not long ago because it's still so bad and it itches now like poison ivy does. How the heck, if it is down, get there?!?! ugh...this is crazy.

If it goes on for another day I am going to call and make sure it's nothing else.

Amber...how long did it last for you?

I did that my last pregnancy once after being checked it was a contact dermatitis from the glove the OB used.

It could be the latex or the infection didnt clear up.  But no reason to assume or guess just call your family dr, or ob, thats what they get paid for, no need to guess or feel uncomfortable for a few days.

I was going to say the same thing. latex can sometimes give you that feeling especially if they use the ROUGH KIND. I don't think it's an yeast infection and i doubt it would come overnight or right after the midwife checking you.

I had an yeast infection YEARS ago and it's mainly white discharge....

I'm thinking it may be a reaction to the latex. I was fine until she checked me. It has never happened when my OB checked me...hmm. Also when my midwife did it, it hurt really bad as she  checked as well.
I've never had a yeast infection that I know of....so I am not sure what it feels like! I doubt that's what it is though and I'm sure she would probably say it could be that.
Do you think it's okay that I used some triple antibiotic ointment? It has calmed it down a lot and has helped to soothe it big time! It was almost instantaneous. hmmmm...I probably should just run it by my midwife though.

Man girl, I just don't know.....A reaction to the latex maybe??  I don't know what it could be but maybe you can use some Aveeno or something (that would be used for the Poison Ivy) down there.

I sure wish I could be of more help.....I remember (during my last pregnancy) I had a reaction to Monistat.  I can't use it.  I'm allergic to it.  I wasn't always though.  Anyway, it burned so bad that I thought I was literally on fire down there.  I almost had to go to the ER.  I was embarrassed too, but I swear it felt like I had put a freakin jalapeno down there!!

If Aveeno or Calamine lotion or something of that nature doesn't help, I would sure call your midwife.  I bet she will probably try to say you have a yeast infection, but once you have one of those, you never forget what it feels like!!!
