WELL TMI, BUT..........

I am so very constipated.  I absolutely cannot make it without some type of medication.  The one we found that helped me the most I guess....well, it was just too expensive.  Even with insurance it was like $600.00 for 2 weeks worth of medicine.  I just can't do that.  It's like $60 per pill.

Sooooo, I went back to Zofran.  I was like, "Well, I just have to try something".  Well the Zofran is causing me to be constipated.  I mean, I just can't go at all.  I am so uncomfortable.  I bought a stool softener yesterday, but it has done nothing.  If it's not one thing, it's another!!!!!

I don't know what to do, but please don't say prune juice.  With as sick as I am right now, if I tried that, I would throw up immediatly.

Just needed to vent.....

Oh, and I have been trying to eat fiber.  I ate salad the day before yesterday, yesterday, and today.  Plus I had some vegetable soup yesterday w/ my salad.

WTHeck!!!!

I did try the suppositories.  That didn't do it for me.  So, I did the enema on Friday and went a little, but not since then.  Like you said, it's like cement or something.  Terrible...

Oh bummer. Maybe before using an enema next time you could ask your dr for the suppositories. It stimulates everything and gets you going, but it's not a laxative.

I know you don't want to hear it, but prune juice actually works..Also, Constipation is another pregnancy symptom...not just the zofran...I had to use  prune juice too, but mix it with high pulp orange juice and it doesn't taste so bad..the other night I almost passed out from the constipation...the prune juice helped in a matter of minutes..My doc said to drink lots and lots of high pulp juice...

Nic, your intestines are not working...LOL...I read that when you become pregnant, your digestive systems slows down to absorb more nutrients from the food you eat to help nourish the baby...so right along with the morning sickness, you get constipated, not only from the medicine to help with that, but also from your body adjusting to the baby, constipation leads to hemorrohiods(sp?) which is a whole other arena...luckily, I haven't had to deal with that and after my prune juice the other day, I have been going pretty regular...if I feel like I am "locking up" I will drink some more...I would rather deal with the temporary bad taste then to feel super full and uncomfortable from the constipation. I hope this helps out some...

Boy oh boy..the things we go through to have a baby!! LOL  I pray we all get some relief soon!!

As for as i know, my GP prescribed me Lactulose solution which is to be taken 15ml twice a day. (I take thrice a day as I really suffer with pain n sometimes blood :( Its so hard)
Ya..bananas sometime work in either way..that depends on the variety.
Drink warm water in the morning in empty stomach and hav some raisins. This works really well.

That's a good point with the All mush no push. A little icky, but good. My two problems are 1- my intestines are just like not working, nothing is moving, I don't even get the urge to go anymore. 2- when I do go its as hard as cement. TMI I know.

I think the fiber is going to make the biggest difference.

My dh just researched this - bananas are a good source to keep adults regular but for some reason they constipate babies as we are currently finding out with our dd (crying every time she has to go #2 poor little thing!!).  I guess it is possible they can constipate adults too so maybe avoid them.
In my dh's pharmacy they have a saying for stool softeners "All mush, no push"...they don't really help you go they just make it softer.    I would try some shredded wheat cereal and salads like you have been doing are good too.

Oh and bananas are on the brat diet. I figure anything used to make you stop going too much is something I want to stay away from. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast.

Well I swear by the prune juice, but I can't hold it down anymore either. I picked up stool softeners and fiber after talking to my ob yesterday. She said a good fiber supplement that you can take in a pill form will help. I'm doubling up on the meds to get things going and then after that she said I can cut back to stool softeners only when I need them and fiber every day.

Well i googled bananas to see if what the nurse told me was right.  Evidently it's debatable.  Can go either way.  I would say having some yummy cheerios with some bananas would be just fine (and delicious!)

As a matter of fact, I'm hungry! LOL

Be careful on the bananas.  They can actually constipate you rather than keep you "going."  I know it's strange since bananas are a fruit, I thought they would be loaded with fiber.  Apparently not though, according to my nurse. *_*

Sounds good in some cheerios though.  LOL  I have eat a ton of cereal so far this pregnancy.  Cold things have hit the spot.  And most cereals have folic acid, and also a great source of calcium.  I eat at least one bowl every day.

How much water are you drinking a day, lots of water helps (8 glasses a day) There is a prenatal pill (ethex) that has a stool softner in it.  Senokot S(orange pill), not sure if you can get it over the counter, it is a laxative and stool softner, you may need a little help to make you go and just not a softner. Also you need to give it about 2-3 days to work.

My sister eats that Activa yogurt, she has bad constipation, and she has a bowel movement every other day now. I think there is even an oatmeal that helps with digestive system, oh yea fiber one toaster pastry.

Or try taking the stool softner and some milk of mag(and full glass of water) and see if that helps. I had constipation in beggining, then i started drinking lots of water, and i no i eat lots of fiber.(cheerois multi grain is a good cereal, bland but with raisins and bananas its good lol)

There's this fiber that comes in a powder form (maybe called citricel or fibercon or something like that.) Add a teaspoon or two to your drink a couple times a day.  The powdered fiber that I am referring to is in a green plastic bottle and is safe to take while pregnant.

Also see if you can eat lots of fruits and drink lots of water. Apples, etc.

Feel better!
