It's really up to how they make you feel... I was going to this beautiful, large building with gleaming floors and floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Thought I'd get luxury service (like mani-pedi while I waited. Lol), but it ended up being just a factory, raking in insurance and CoPays and treating each person like a $$. Went twice because I was having severe pains and my hack of an OB bluntly told me I lost my baby and quickly offered up D&C service, as if it was the only option. No consult, no explanation, no bedside manner. Called incessantly to speak with another Dr and then, the manager. Kept getting vmails and was told to wait 48hrs to hear back.
Now, whether or not what was told and offered to me was correct, it was a matter of how mistreated and insignificant that office made me feel. My hubby and I decided to move on to a new Dr (did a little more research this time). From the start, the office environment was more lowkey and personable, making me much more comfy in dealing with the tragedy of our fetal demise. Our Dr was caring and the office staff wasn't dismissive. And in doing some actual doctoring, they saved our first born!! I'm 7weeks (off from the 8.5 I should be) and had I not trusted my gut and comfort level, I would have agreed to butcher my insides for no reason.
I share this because it reminds me of the late Robin Williams' SVU episode (he lost his wife by not trusting his gut, falling prey to what we all are blindsighted by). Drs are smart, but they aren't always right. But the customer (aka US) is and how a practice treats you is just as important (if not more) as the medical side of what they do. Now being that you've already considered abandoning ship, maybe finding the right OB for you isn't such a neurotic idea =\
My friend and I are pregnant at the same time.. these are 2nd pregnancies for both of us.. we didnt know how far along either of us was... I had my first visit and ultrasound where I found out I was 13 weeks and then had the gender ultrasound at 18 weeks. I'm expecting a little girl. She had her first ultrasound and found out she was 10 weeks.. she also found out shes expecting twins! Thats how our office works.. we both go to the same obgyn.. they did an estimate on far along I was with a blood test after I had a positive test at home.. then scheduled the first visit. I had to push mine back so I didnt get in till later but they usually wont see you until you pass the 8-9 week mark. And just a side note.. my friend did notice a lot of weight gain early on but didnt expect twins.. that was a surprise. We just assumed early weight gain came along with the second pregnancy. But I wouldn't stress if I were you.. all will go well. Thats how doctors are and you will find out soon. Just hang in there and good luck!
My Dr office doesn't do confirmation testing and doesn't check HCG levels. They schedule you for your first visit bewtwen 7-9 weeks and then they do an ultrasound to check everything. I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain either since its your second its common to gain weight quicker and show much sooner
Hang in there. I'm 7 months with my second and I can reassure you that it can be different the 2nd time! Everything is different this pregnancy for me. :)
Thanks for the responses. I have looked into going elsewhere but this office has the best reputation. It's my second pregnancy too and so very different than my first it makes me worry more than I probably need to.
My ob saw me right away when I had a positive test with my first and now my second. They usually wait till at least 6 or 7 weeks for an ultrasound our u won't see anything but an empty sac. I also got blood work right away...maybe is their policy but if dont like it, look else where
Im barely 4 weeks pregnant and my obgyn is doing my first sonogram until im 6 weeks. I believe its their policy to wait but everywhere is different. Try to keep asking to refer you somewhere. I havent gained but like 3 pounds and this is my second child. Good luck
Oh and my first pregnancy I didn't gain until my 2nd trimester. This time I gained right away. Hang in there, I know how anxious you feel having to wait.
My doctor won't make the first appointment until after 8 weeks. I believe it's just the policy. The only way I was able to get an early ultrasound and blood work done was because I was bleeding. Other than that, they usually do make you wait it out those first few weeks.
