There's a chance of birth defects from any medication. If you have to take zofran to make due, then IMO, do what you've gotta do! I received criticism from a few about taking phenergan, but had horrible nausea up until about 22 weeks. I couldn't make it through most days without it & my job is what provides my family with food, shelter, & insurance. There are many out there that have/are taking zofran, etc & have had no birth defects in their babies.

I took zofran with my first born and he was born fine, the media is over doing it. If your ob feels its safe they can perscribe it, if not they will provide a alternative.

Beets, beans, and all the dark greens! Be sure to drink plenty of orange juice too avoid constipation, oatmeal can help too, one cereal I found really rich in iron is the Krave cereal,  any kind is good.

There have been birth defects from taking zofran, koyama83. And I heard that any dairy products need to be pasteurized. :)

It is best to consult your ob about your diabetes, but always remember to stick to a healthy diet. Stay away from high sugars please!

Sorry to late replies ladies, but always stay away from raw fish, sword fish and even tuna. They can potientally hurt your baby! 12oz a week of salmon, shrimp or tilapia is ok. There's no limits to cheese. The calcium is good for you. And most of all stay away from LIVER the vitamin A can kill your baby brain!

ok thanks... I'm 17 weeks and have only been losing weight..11 pounds down now. I had an idea to eat avocados, coconut oil, and nuts to gain weight. What do you think?...btw, my intake is mostly fruit, some veggies, chicken, rice, potatos, corn for carbs since I have gluten intolerance..and I eat candy and fast-food quite a lot. I am on zofran btw.
