They're just stuck in their generation.  For example, I would not want to name a daughter Esther because it was a grandma-generation name when I was growing up and I associate it with an old lady, but probably by now, some people are listening to it with fresh ears and it might come back again and if so, it would feel very new.  (Hazel is like that.  In my childhood, only grandmas had it and a housemaid in the cartoons, but now Julia Roberts' daughter is Hazel I think, and it sounds really sweet and fresh.)  Both Ava and Eva have made that circuit, and are sounding new again.  They just can't hear it.

Ava Marie was my first choice for my little girl but I changed my mind to aliah Marie.. I still love the name Ava though! N the Only opinions that matter are yours n the dads!

My daughter is an Ava, Natalie Ava. Everyone thinks its an old name too, i think its BEAUTIFUL... It reminds me of a beautiful woman... I love the name you chose. She can be a lawyer or dr and with a srromg name like Ava they'll take her serious. Good job! If you like it that's all that matters!
