Zofran good? Bad?

I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my first child and I've had severe nausea and vomiting to where I've lost almost 20 pounds. My doctor gave me Zofran and I was wondering if anyone has had complications, birth defects, or know anyone who has.

Thank you for your comments! I really do appreciate it. I did read that there are slight risks but I didn't find much. I just wanted to hear from other mothers I guess. Never can be too careful with your unborn :)

Zofran is perfectly safe for use in pregnancy. Its a category B medication meaning that no studies have found that it causes harm in humans, although some animal studies may have shown slight risk.

Many doctors still prescribe it. However, there was a very recent study released showing negative effects on baby. It has been recommended that it no longer be used. At this point, it's kind of up to you while debates are on going. I'd read up on it and see what you think. Personally, I wouldn't take it.

Hello!
I can tell you that Zofran is supposed to turn off the nausea and vomiting center in your brain. It is commonly used on cancer patients for the effects of chemo therapy. And like the other ladies said if it wasn't safe the doctor wouldn't have given it to you ☺ all the best in your pregnancy! I hope your nausea goes away soon 20 lbs weight loss I'm so sorry!

It helped me tremendously, however the constipation was terrible to deal with. I was able to take 1/2 and eventually 1/4 pills which also helped.  I had to push water & tons of fruits/veggies. If you're vomiting and cannot keep pills down they can give you IV fluids & zofran in the IV. Pills come in dissolving format too that you put on your tongue--that didn't work for me.  I took zofran weeks 8-21. Good luck.

It is safe in pregnancy. I took it for about 8 weeks, because I couldn't eat anything without getting sick. It helped a lot. I still got sick a few times, but felt so much better. It did cause constipation for me though.  But I thought that was easier to deal with.

They wouldn't give it to you if it caused birth defects!
