holding legs during labor

Can you have your baby father and someone of your choice holding your legs when you give birth? I think I would prolly feel more comfortable if someone was holding my legs and talking to me at the sametime.

How do you tell them you don't want to be on your back?  Does it have to be in a birth plan?

No one has ever had to hold my legs in labor. The only time anyone even touched my legs was when I was on my side and I got the urge to push in my second labor. All my strength had gone to pushing so they had to roll me over like a barrel, lol

I will probably be sitting straight up, on my hands and knees or on my side I dont need anyone hold in my legs. And also it opens your pelvis more than on your back!
Geelong is on to something

Not a direct answer to your question but I thought I should mention... having someone to hold your legs up isn't necessary if you choose a different position for childbirth - being flat on your back hugely increases your risk of tearing or being cut... to heck with that extra pain for no good reason!! I birthed my first on my hands and knees and nobody had to do anything but catch!

My sisters fiance held one leg and I held the other for the birth of her 2nd baby.  It's really your choice who you want in there with you.

My son's dad and my mom held my legs during birth. I am only 5 foot and so the stir ups they put your legs in were too far away and I wasn't comfortable nor able to push. My epidural worked great so I was unable to hold my own. It helped a lot to have my mom and fiance holding my legs and coaching me thru it.. I plan on the same for my second son as well. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure you can, and honestly I think the hospital would rather you provide someone instead of them having to need extra hands just to hold you. With my first I had my sister and mom hold my legs because hubby wasn't familiar with what to do and I wanted higher and he was nervous so I had my sister hold them. With my second it was him and my mom holding them.
