macrobid and nausea

Hi.. has anyone else taken macrobid for uti?? Is it normal to feel horribly sick with it? How did you all deal with the nausea? My doc gave me reglan but it doesn't seem to be helping and I'm hardly half way with macrobid.. I've been non functional while taking it and it's getting worse every day.

Any advise on dealing with it will be appreciated..

Try eating a yogurt and crackers before you take it if you can get a yogurt with lactobacillis in it or you can buy the lactobacicillis packets at whole foods and add it to the yogurt of your choice. Lactosbacillis restores you gi enzymes amd decreases nausea and diarhea caused by antibiotics. And the yogurt will help coat your stomach as well as fend off any possible yeast infection the antibiotics may cause. Hope it helps and you feel bwtter soon

I took macrobid for a UTI as well and it didn't make me nauseated (although it may havr , but its hard to tell I'm always nauseated) however it did give loose stools. Antibiotics, while they kill the bad infection causing bacteria, also kill all the good bacteria in your GI tract. They are renowned for causing GI upset. Unfortunately in the case of a UTI stronger broad spectrum antibiotics are usually needed since the bacteria that causes them can be a bit more resistant. Try adding a probiotic to your day and see if that helps

I would call your Dr and let them know it's making you nauseous. They are the only ones that can prescribe you something safe for nausea.
I took keflex antibiotic for a kidney infection and it made me terribly nauseous.
Unfortunately i just suffered through it
