Sadly with my 3 year old as soon as we were discharged we went to Wal-Mart, there was some things my hubby needed for work and he decided we would all just go before we headed home from the hospital. But even then it was maybe 2 days later I had her out and about with me. I cant sit at home and being an rn I honestly feel it doesnt really hurt them, there are germs and bacteria everywhere and their immune systems arent going to build up a resistance if they arent exposed to it. But do whatever you are comfortable with. I wouldnt let strangers touch my baby or get in her face ect. But im ok with taking them out.

I was out and about with both my babies after about a week.  Went shopping,  to the mall, restaurants,  ran errands.

Babies immune system is very weak after they are born, why risk it? Other than out of sheer necessity... old school thinking says 40 days and I agree with it.

Its YOU that shouldn't go outside... its dangerous to ur body.. because u have been opened up... so you'll be at risk for infection. Be careful, and when u do take ur baby out... don't let anyone breathe on it.. Lol

With my son I took him out when he was 2 days old, but that was because I really had to. After that I didn't take him out in public for about a month x

Two months minimum. That's the odd school way of things.

With my oldest two it was about 2 weeks before I took them anywhere other than dr. appts. With my 3rd I didn't take her out until after her 2 month shots, because my 2nd daughter ended up hospitalized due to RSV and then a flu like virus from her babysitter having her out and around too many people and germs. I also don't allow visitors for the same length of time and reaon. With my son we didn't take him out for about 5 months other than appointments because he was 7 weeks premature and in the NICU for almost a month.  There are too many people with germs who love to touch and breathe on babies. So if you can avoid taking baby out as much as possible please do so.

I waited at least a month with my first. I'll be doing the same with this one, and I'm not letting visitors or anyone come by.

I usually end up at the grocery store after a day or two.  I keep them covered and make it quick.
