the name game

Does anyone else like traditional names? Sorry but I want people to be able to say and write my child's name. Everyone is trying to find unique names but I worry that their teachers won't be able to say them. And I was reading that kids with names that hard to say get less attention in school and have lower IQ's. I'm not saying that your child will be stupid if you choose a unique name it was just what I read. Name your kids what you please just food for thought.

I agree ^^^^ I love names with a meaning! I love the history and meaning of my children's names. And original poster, I wasn't offended nor bothered by the statement in the post. I, like you just gave my opinion. Personally, I don't like names that are common. I don't want my children to be known as "Amber M" or Kevin M...I wanted to give my children names that were as unique as they are. But in naming my kids, each child only has 6 letters per 1st and last name and 2 syllables per name.

Yes on normal names. My son is Kevin Bradley, after his father and my father. I like names with meaning, not some silly made up name. Just my opinion!!

I am in no way saying that any will have or does have a lower IQ. I thought I made that clear that I was not trying to offend anyone but was rather stating what I read. I don't like names that are difficult to pronounce but that is MY opinion ( key word OPINION). I honestly don't care what a persons name is. I do not judge people based on their names or how it's spelled.

My child's name will be brently if a boy and ryen (Ryan) if a girl. If a teacher can't pronounce those names they shouldn't be teaching

My children have unique names. Both of my daughters are in advanced classes. I am currently pregnant with my 1st son and his name follows suit and flows with his sisters. My kids won't be known as "Amber M" or Sean M....I was sure not to give them a first name with more letters than their last name. I said all of that to say, I disagree with the article. I believe the environment and parenting have more to do with an IQ than a childs name....just look at Condoleezza Rice...ijs

I do not believe a child's IQ is linked to their name however I do personally prefer traditional names. My son's name is Noah and baby #2 will be named Jacob.

Your child IQ is not linked to his/her name. I have 3 sisters & 6 brothers, all unique names, people can't pronounce or they mistake one sibling by another. But none of us have have low IQ, we all college graduates or in processing of finishing, 2 finished masters, 1 is pursuing engeerning, few are processing of looking into medical school & nursing. And all of us names are very unique according to American standard & teachers couldn't pronounce our name. So it's NOT TRUE

What Mrsandrews said is a perfect example of the point you are trying to get across. I love traditional names. I actually just read a post on Facebook about how parents are getting ridiculous with these new age unique names..names like yr'hyness and pheloney
..like really???

So glad other people are doing this. I have a Anna, Robert and this baby will be Jillian. I just feel like when people ask for opinions for unique names I don't say anything because it doesn't make sense to me.
