Curiosity-Those of you who already have twins......

Hi all you amazing twin moms. I have been researching anything and everything based on early delivery to nicu stays, etc. My question to all you moms of twins is this.... (and if some of it is personal, please feel free not to comment. I am just curious about everyones experiance)

1. How many weeks did you make it to before you delivered your twins? Bed Rest? If yes, how long?
2.Vaginal delivery or C-section?
3. NICU stay for twins? If so, how long?
4. Any learning problems/disabiities due to early delivery?
5. Genders of your twins? Identical/faternal?

Thanks in advance!!!! Im looking forward to hearing about your experiances!!!!!

1. How many weeks did you make it to before you delivered your twins? Bed Rest? If yes, how long? *** 33 weeks 4 days, strict bed rest due to complete placenta previa, 4 months of strict of bed rest ***
2.Vaginal delivery or C-section? *** c-section due to the previa ***
3. NICU stay for twins? If so, how long? *** 25 days in the NICU as feeders and growers ***
4. Any learning problems/disabiities due to early delivery? *** not that we know of but no delays so far besides growth ***
5. Genders of your twins? Identical/faternal? *** fraternal g/g twins ***

Hey there, I am also starting 29th week now.  I am not dialated yet but because of the high frequency that I get BH contractions, I will probably be reduced down to 3 hours work / day.  Other than that things are going great with the pregnancy.

1.  36 weeks Strict bed rest at 28 weeks.  I went in for my regular 28 week appt. That is when my OB starts checking vaginally.  I had dilated 1-1.5cm.  I was sent to L&D and they found I was having contractions.  We had to try a couple of different meds to stop them.   I was also given a steroid shot for lung development in case we had to deliver.  I had to lay on my left side for 8 long weeks.  I could sit up for short periods of time.  At 36 weeks I started swelling and while my toxemia panel came back negative, my Dr. was afraid with my blood pressure rising..etc..So at 36 weeks and 1 day, I delivered.

2.  C section.  One of the babies was breach.

3.  NO NICU  This is probably due to the steroid shots.  They also had good weights  6lb and 4lb 15oz.

4.  No delays that we can see.  One of our friends had a baby a week before us and we have found when he does something, our kids can do it 2-3 weeks later.

5.  Fraternal boy/girl

Good luck to you!  Take care of yourself!!!!!!

1. 31 1/2 weeks. No bedrest, but was put in the hospital at 30 weeks with preterm labor.
2. Vaginal delivery with no epidural.
3.Twin A stayed 2 weeks, Twin B stayed 6 weeks.
4.Twin B has cerebral palsy due most likely to early delivery.
5.Both girls, fraternal.

1. I was ooff work at 23wks started having lots of tightening of the tummy, 2 wks later was in hospital after routine exam showed I was 1.5cm dilated. So after being in hospital for 8 days was on bed rest. I carried till 1 day short of 38 wks.
2.Both were head down since 26 wks so we were hoping for vag, but twin A's heart rate went down with every time I pushed so had a C-Cec.
3. No. Only twin A was in nursery for 2hrs for monitoring.
4. Not sure. They are now 14months old, One seems to be a little less interested in cuddling and clinging to us. She stays with her toys and likes to sit in corners. She looks and listens to everything I teach them, but says or does it few weeks later than her sis. Dr says that is not to worry about.
5. both girls, fraternal

Good luck.

1.  32 weeks.  No official rest, but told to take it easy at 30 weeks (discovered cord issue with twin A at that time)

2. C-section (emergency, after twin A not doing well in non stress tests)

3. 1 month in NICU.   Twin A intubated for 24 hrs and on oxygen for about a week. Otherwise, they were mostly feeder/growers.

4. Motor delays first 8 months.  Mostly caught up by 10 months.  Not completely 'out of the woods' yet.  They will be 2 next month, twin A has some speech delay still (could be motor related).  Twin B has slight fine motor delays--but we think he may just be lazy and/or inattentive with things like drawing and doing puzzles :).

5.  Fraternal (B/G).  But when they are just wearing their diapers, many can't tell them apart-LOL!

Best wishes for a continued healthy pregnancy for you!

1. my ob thought i would pop no later then 29 weeks (i had dialeted 2 cm and was 50% effaced by 24 weeks) but i managed to keep the buggers in till 34 weeks when my water broke...which scared the pee out of me. lol.  i was put on moderate bed rest at 24 weeks...i was only allowed on my feet NO MORE then 60 minutes/day. that's from time i woke up till i went to sleep....which sucked big time.

2. my ob wasn't big on c sections. he only scheduled them or did them in cases of emergency or babies that were too big so i went vaginal. i did get the epidural which i highly recommend. lol. i had all of my contractions and labor pains in my back and it was the most excruciating pain i'd ever been in. the needle to get the epi hurts but no worse then say.....getting a tetnus shot....it pinched and was this really strong pressure on the spine. but once it's in....it's great. it really helped me be able to focus on the contractions.

3. my boys were in nicu for one night. yup...that's it one night. they had issues with breathing at first and they kept them there just to be sure they'd be ok. they were jaundiced a bit so they had to stay in incubators in the nursery under billi lights for 4 more days/nights. so all together they were in the hospital for 5 days (i was there for 3)

4. my boys are doing very well with learning. they're 9 months old now and they're completely caught up and surpassing babies who were born full term. in fact they were caught up by 4 months. brett was 5 lb. 3 oz and eli was 5 lb 13 oz. eli is talking...starting to make little 2 word sentences, he knows how to communicate what he wants and is crawling very well as well as standing up. brett is starting to say some words. hey, hi, ma, da, ba he is an expert at crawling and standing and is starting to take itty bitty steps. so they're good at different things. lol.

5. they're both boys. their dna is the same but they look NOTHING alike. i mean absolutely night and day. brett is super skinny with no hair while eli is muscular...he's not fat but he's definitely heavier then eli. with a head of reddish blonde hair. they're the same length and have the same facial features (same nose, lips, eyes, nose and ears)
