Does early pregnancy detection possibly mean multiples?

Hi everyone. I recently found out I was pregnant only 3 weeks after the first day of my last period. I've read in a lot of articles that despite pregnancy tests' claims of accurately testing positive up to 5 days before missed periods (even the new early detection kind), they have a hard time picking up any hormone levels before 4 or 5 weeks.

Here's why I ask, my last period actually ended up being one week late which was very unusual for me as I have always had a regular 28 day cycle. I spotted very lightly on the day my period was supposed to come, and for two days afterward (very lightly, like barely pink). Then I didn't have anything for about 3 days and then finally I had regular flow for another 3 days. I ended up counting the first day of regular flow as the first day of my last period in order to find my due date. Should I have counted from the day I spotted instead, which was supposed to be the first day of my period? That would make me one more week along and make it more likely that the pregnany test would have picked up a positive reading. Or , on the other hand, did I calculate it right and could the early hormone levels possibly indicate twins?

Sorry it's such a confusing question and thanks for taking the time to help me out. I'll have my first prenatal visit in September and I can't wait until then to ask this question. Thanks again!

I tested 4-5 times before I got a positive test and it wasn't a very strong positive. I tested the day before I should have got my period. So, I really don't know if early positives necessarily means twins.

Well just wait for the u/s to be done. Have you had your hcg blood test done yet?

Well I think you could either be further along and the last period was not an actual period but just bleeding during pregnancy or it can just mean that you might be pregnant with multiples. I don't mean to scare you, but I tested about 4-5 days early and I got a pretty strong positive. When I went to have an ultrasound I found out I had 5 heartbeats. I did take fertility meds so that's why I had such a high amount, but it could be possible that you are having twins. Or maybe you just ovulated earlier than you thought. The only way to find out is by having an u/s. Good luck!!
