No Work for Two Weeks....

I have been having contractions on and off for the past few days.  Last night I couldn't sleep and I got up and decided to search the internet.  I noticed that my belly was getting hard every 7-8 minutes, so I called my mother (who is a Doula).  She said that if i I am having ANY contractions more than 4 times an hour, that I should be concerned and talk to my dr because I am pregnant with twins...and twin pregnancies have to be treated a little more cautiously.

So today I went to my scheduled midwife appt and she said that my cervix isn't dilated at all but that the contractions are still too often and that we should be cautious.  So I have to take the magnesium, drink some special tea, rum special homeopathic oil on my belly, and not work for at least a week.

I went to the Dr as well so she could measure my cervix, as she did directly before my vacation to the US.... and it is still the same length and she confirmed everything looks good still...but threw an extra week on it and said don't work for the next 2 weeks.  I don't have strict bed rest or anything, just  need to lay around a lot and not work.

My boss will surely expect me to work from home on my laptop...... but Dr. said I shouldn't.  I have a pretty senior position so I have to figure out what to do.... maybe a little of both....

Today we had an appointment with the specialist and everything looks good.  The babies are 1.9 and 1.7 lbs :)  The amount of amniotic fluid is good, the organs, heart and brain and everything is totally normal for both girls.  The only thing is that we have to keep an eye on the contractions to make sure that they dont turn into "real" ones that start to open the cervix.

kindergal - tomorrow starts the 26th week.  I am not dilated at all and cervix is still closed and 3.8cm long so everything is fine there - for now. My doctor didn't say complete bed rest....just that i need to relax and not do much... first for two weeks and then next friday we will see.  I definitely will not be going into work, but will spend a few min checking emails each day.  But I will definitely be careful not to overdo anything because I dont want to end up on Complete Bedrest or anything!!!

How many weeks are you?  If your Dr. recommends no work, then follow his orders!!!!  I went in for my 28 week appt. and my Dr. told me I had dilated and was having contractions (I felt nothing, so I did not know.  The first thing he said was "You are done with work!"  I had to go on bed rest---staying on my left side for 8 weeks.  It was awful, but I would have done anything to keep these kiddos in longer.
Drink lots of water!!!  If he says you can stay in bed and do work via computer, that would be helpful I am sure...  Just listen to your Dr. at this point...your boss can just deal with it.  My Dr. wrote a note to my boss and basically in as nice of a way as possible let her know that under NO circumstances would I be coming back to work anytime soon.

I know what you mean! I had such an easy pregnancy last time, I really didn't think twins would be much different! I think you should enjoy the time you have now to be lazy and once your babies come - you can turn back into superwoman!

I have been having BH contractions this last week, which I had never had before so it was a bit scary. I was scared that I was going into labour for real. Last thursday night I went to bed early to read a book as I was not feeling very comfortable. While I was trying to read I got the worst stomach pains, they got so bad that I had to get out of bed and walk around. They felt like really bad gastro pain, just without the 'runs' part. I had five of them about 30 seconds long and 5 mins apart. I thought the next one I have, I am ringing the hospital- but I didn't get anymore until the next afternoon. I have also found that if a try to walk too far, my stomach tightens with BH but those ones aren't painful. Seeing my Ob's tuesday so will find out more then what I should/shouldn't be doing. I am so glad I have finished work, now my 2yr old is my full-time job!

I'm thinking its funny pookie, I think we are due around the same time, and have both been getting these. I wonder if its just something that just starts up about now with twin pregnancies, or maybe we are both trying to do more than we should be! Rest up :)

Yes it is true my 22 month old DD is a bundle of energy and wears me out.  During the day though she goes to day care so I really should get some rest during the week.

I also don't have total bed rest....more like "couch potato rest" like 35Mom said.

I will surely work a little bit because like tbeards says, I think I would get bored with TV (at least here in Germany. In the US I always seem to find some (junk) to watch but that is probably when I am home I love watching TV in English), but I dont want to work too much.  I know I need the rest.

Last time I was pregnant, when I first went on maternity leave, I went nuts as it was still 6 weeks before my due date.  On the first day, I cleaned the apt, cleaned out the car, etc.... But this time around, I think I could also enjoy being a little lazier... :)

But the strange thing is that I really didnt expect to be put on rest.  I expected to have just an easy pregnancy as last time.  I figured I would make it to week 34 at least with no issues.  I almost couldnt believe it when my belly started getting hard earlier this week!

I worked about 1/2 time from home the last few weeks of my twin pregnancy.  I wasn't officially put on rest, but cutting out the commute, etc did help.  It also made it easier for me to get to all frequent appts and non stress tests I was having like every other day!

I can understand you feeling obligated to work, but don't discount what the docs say.  Since my kids came early, I have some regrets about not taking things easy toward the end of my pregnancy.  Glad to hear things look okay for you right now.  Hopefully a week or two off will scare those contractions away for a while :).  Hang in there!

Hi ladies! So sorry I haven't been on in a while. I have been back at work and my evenings are taken up spending QT with the girls ; )

I worked from home on my laptop the four weeks I was on bed rest and I think I would have gone crazy if I didn't have that to do. TV gets old and knitting did too! Just do what you can and not stress.

Staying hydrated was key for me!! Good luck! I can't wait to hear delivery stories : )

Do you have someone to help watch your daughter?  Sometimes I find that when I have a day off work, I find myself working even harder at home,,,and over doing it, pretty much.

My dr. says she doesn't usually recommend "bed rest" but if the time comes, she'll put me on "couch potato rest"  which actually sounds heavenly at the moment.  Enjoy!

Take care of yourself, stay hydrated, be well...  keep us posted.
