Swollen bad, is this normal?

I am alomost 35 weeks along with twins.  I have had mild swelling but since yesterday my swelling has gotten pretty severe.  At night my hands usually cramp up and go numb but today my right hand has been partially numb all day and is way more pufffy than my left hand.  My feet, legs and hands are just huge.  I called my doctors office and spoke to the dr on call which I'm not happy with.  It really seems like they could care less.  He says this is normal-is it?  It's pretty bad.  This is my first pregnancy so I just want to be safe.  Even my face is starting to swell.

when i had my boys last year (hard to believe in one month my boog and bug are going to be a year old!!!) i was SOOO swollen my last trimester. THANK GOD it was during summer the only shoes that even semi fit me were my flip flops. i couldn't even squeeze my elephant feet into my sneakers. my high heels...HA i could get TWO TOES in them. lol. my hands had actually gone numb. i'm not sure why they did i don't think it was the swelling but my ob told me it was perfectly normal. i did get feeling back in them within hours of giving birth though. but oh lord i was swollen from the begining of my 3rd trimester until 6-8 weeks after delivery. but don't worry it does go away. i'm already back down to pre pregnancy weight. (just still have the flabby baby belly)

Your Dr. will probably run a toxemia panel on you if the swelling is accompanied by a rise in blood pressure.

thank you ladies! I did talk to my ob and he asked me a bunch of questions and I guess this is normal since the swelling is not accompanied by headache or seeing spots.  I was shocked-I didnt think getting so swollen was possible!!

My neighbor just gave birth to a single baby in May and she was storing A LOT of water.  The last two months were very difficult for her.  She really ballooned up!  Her hands also went numb and she said when she stood for a short time, her legs and feet hurt so bad.  She tried acupuncture and all sorts of stuff, nothing really helped.

Some women just store more water than others, but if you are concerned, better have a check up just to make sure.

You really need to call your doctor. I was reading online that it's a sign of pre-eclampsia and if that's that case you might have to deliver soon. I know I had swelling with my first pregnancy that started 2 weeks before but it was just normal swelling. Call your doctor right away!!
