Twins and Work

I am supposed to teach in the fall semester.  I calculated that I need to work till I am 33 weeks.  Is this realistic with twins?  How long were you able to work?

I have a baby already who was delieverd at 40 weeks and that time I worked till 35 weeks (end of semester), no problem.

I'm sure it is possible, but like others have said, the further you get in the pregnancy, the more difficult it can be to move and just feel decent. I worked up until I was 28 weeks or so. Ended up delivering mine at 32 weeks 4 days.

I worked part time until my 36th week with my twins. I also continued my bikram yoga practice up until the day before they were born (39.2 weeks). If you remain healthy and take it easy you can work until 33 weeks. Just be sure to listen to your body.

It is possible to make it to 33 weeks working, but with twins we are higher risk of having to stop working sooner. Some good advice to follow would be to keep well hydrated while working, never stand when you can sit, and try to stay as stress-free as possible. Of course watch for any signs your body may give you that you might be doing too much and then try to cut back on any activities that bring on those signs. I know I am overdoing it if I start to get a bit of a hardening feeling in my stomach. Good luck.

Oh and I worked a desk job, very low activity, but it was still too much strain on my body.

A twin pregnancy will almost certainly be harder on your body than your singleton pregnancy was. The fact that you go through all the growing and stretching and weight gaining at a much faster rate makes it harder for your body to adjust. I wouldn't count on being able to work until 33 weeks - it's certainly a possibility, but I think you should prepare yourself for the possibility that you'll have to stop before then, and even go on bed rest. Whatever you do, please listen to your body and don't overdo it because it can throw you into premature labor and you want to keep those babies in for as long as possible. I went to my 24 week OB appt. and told her that I felt I'd reached my limit and needed to stop working. She said she couldn't excuse me from work if I wasn't having complications. Well, I had been right because the following week, I started having frequent contractions and my cervix started shortening so I was put on bed rest and medications to control the contractions. The bed rest helped TREMENDOUSLY with the pain I was feeling, and with that, the meds, and a few trips to the hospital, I was able to keep them in until 37 weeks exactly! They were born perfectly healthy with no NICU stay :)
