early detection

hi all
i have just had a very positive(meaning not faded but dark) result using a strip pregnancy test and i know that i ovulated only around a week and a half ago...Since doing a little research online i have discovered that early high levels of hormone detected can possibly mean twins or more...
Is this true or an old wives tale?
