I am married to a twin and we found out at 8 weeks 5 days of gestation, after asking fir an ultrasound to find out how far along we were that we are having triplets. I am now 22w 2 d and veryexcited. I do not have multiples on my side and was told that it depends on the number of eggs that you drop so faternal twins woul dbe caused by you. If you find out that you have identical twins, it could be the father's fault. That is because when identical twins are fertilized into twins, the fathers sperm split the egg. So I would say thart you have to wait until you have your first ultrasound. Con grats on being pregnant and good luck!
This is what my doctor told me. Fraternal twins run in the family and can only come from the mom's side. Dad's side is never a factor. Of course age and fertility treatments can produce twins also. I dentical twins are hardly ever a result of family history of twins. they either just occur or happen due to fertility treatments.
i think the twin thing is depended on age and genes (the mothers genes) and if you use fertility treatments or not. i do believe once you're over 35 your chances are increased for multiples births and if there are twins on the mothers side of the family (i.e. your side of the family) then there is a chance for twins.
like with dh and i's twin boys. NO twins what so ever on his end of the line....they run rampant through my family. on both sides, moms and dads. there are so many sets of twins it's unreal.
